Thwaites championship charge coninues
Thwaites FC take on Victoria 'B' tonight in the five-a-side league. The
brewery team know they must win if they want to sustain their championship
challenge which suffered a massive blow last week against Whittles in a
shock 3-1 defeat. However, Thwaites, buoyed with confidence after Sunday's
terrific 2-1 win over S & W FC will be looking for yet more good fortune.
Tonight's opponents have title aspirations of their own as they currently
lie in fifth place, two points behind Thwaites but have a game in hand on
them.
There are no fresh injury concerns despite in-form midfielder Jamie Hopwood
having a slight cold. He is set to start on the bench. New Sunday league
manager Dominic Southworth is again set to deputise for 5-a-side manager
Gary Targett who is almost certain to miss the clash. It is uncertain
whether Paul Slater will retain his place in goal in-front of Southworth.
Defender Damian Tabbinor will start the game after healing his rift with the
Thwaites hierarchy and his solid display on Sunday.
Thwaites will also be hoping both Lookers and Magpies slip up tonight which
would see the brewery team go clear at the top and be favourites to clinch
the title should they claim maximum points tonight.
Thwaites choose from: P. Slater, D.Tabbinor, C.Elmer, S. Tipton, M.Slater,
S.Tormay, J.Hopwood, D.Southworth.
Meanwhile, manager Dominic Southworth has sacked goalkeeper Martin Slater.
The news comes after the player has gone AWOL in recent weeks and has left
them in the lurch before several important games by announcing he could'nt
be bothered playing. His brother Paul, currently on loan has been offered a
full-time contract with the brewery giants.
The Thwaites board have also confirmed reports that after Sunday's
seven-a-side game several of the Thwaites team are having their inaugral
Christmas party. It is believed that Lancashire Constabulary along with the
US Marines have been put on full alert and look set to monitor the situation
closely around the Cherry Tree area come Sunday night. Jamie Hopwood,
Dominic Southworth, Simon Tipton and Sean Tormay are all definate attendees.
Damian Tabbinor has yet to commit himself after his appalling behaviour last
Saturday after offending an old woman could keep him indoors. An eye-witness
said that he branded the woman a 'Stan Ternent' look-a-like and had several
pints of Stella Artois before he became rude.
