Thwaites blown away by Champions Marwill!!
Marwill B thrashed Thwaites on Sunday in the 7-a-side league which ended the
brewery teams 3-game winning streak. The final score a 4-0 drubbing in what
turned out to be a one-sided affair. Marwill stormed into the lead in the
opening minutes after some calamitous defending and soon after they doubled
the advantage to make it 2-0. Midfield maestro Jamie Hopwood then weaved
through the Marwill defence only to see his effort crash against the
woodwork. It could have been a totally different game had he managed to
score.
The scores remained at 2-0 by the break with the brewery team still
confident of turning the game round. However, some poor marking and sloppy
play resulted in Marwill extending their lead. It was one way traffic from
then on and before the full time whistle blew the visitors made it four and
clinched the inaugural league championship with only a few games remaining.
Thwaites slip back down a place to seventh in the league, four points behind
Punch Hotel in sixth position. They take on bitter enemies Craven VII next
Sunday and will be looking to heap the pressure on their relegation
threatened rivals. It is being billed as the biggest game of the season to
date with forty different countries expected to be tuned into their
television sets to watch the clash.
Match Ratings:-
Slater 6 - At fault for the second goal. Pulled off some neat saves to keep
the scores down.
Tabbinor 6 - Lost his way a little. Still some fine tackles.
Elmer 5 - A poor performance. His sacking from the Sunday managerial hot
seat looks to have started affecting him.
Hopwood 6 - A little disappointing by his standards. However still inventive
in the middle of the field. Hit the woodwork, had he scored the game could
have been completely different. Managed to avoid his fifth straight red in
as many weeks.
Davidson 6 - Some solid defending. However, like the his team mates the
level of performance was much lower than that shown in recent weeks.
Tormay 4 - Came on as Substitute. Slow. Looked like he had his mind on other
things. The love bite on his neck could well have something to do with it
(!!)
M.Slater 5 - Looked scared of the ball. A poor display
Tipton 6 - Looked like Thwaites most threatening player. However not his
usual self.
Southworth 5 - Not on long enough to make a valid impression on the game.
His first defeat as Thwaites 7-a-side league boss.
