Thwaites start season in defeat!
An under strength Thwaites team started their season with a 2-0 defeat last
night against Iden in the 7-a-side league. The brewery team started brightly
and should have took the lead when Steve Reid scuffed his shot as he went
one-on-one with the keeper. A strong Iden, however packed the midfield and
made it hard for Thwaites to break them down in a what turned out to be a
game of few chances. Ten minutes into the first half Iden went ahead as the
Thwaites defence fell apart.
The second half started in the same fashion as the first with Thwaites
looking the more likely team to score. The brewery team should have then had
a penalty as Bee Hive loan signing Ryan Brook was chopped down at the edge
of the box with what appeared to be the last man. However, Ibby Mulla proved
to be his consistently bad self and only awarded Thwaites a free kick. Brook
was drafted in at the last minute as Sean Tormay had to leave at the request
of his girlfriend. The Bee Hive defender had a solid game despite his
passing letting him down at times.
Iden then started to dominate as the second half went on and it was only a
matter of time before they turned the screw and doubled their lead. They did
just that with five minutes left on the clock to leave Thwaites staring at a
defeat in their first game of the season.
Thwaites looked to have their minds on other things and it could well be
they are eyeing their second piece of silverware of the season this Sunday
in the 7-a-side cup. Several stars are also set to return for the clash who
missed last nights game. However, Dominic Southworth will be out with a
broken hand. Midfield maestro Jamie Hopwood is a doubt after breaking his
finger in an off-the-ball incident but is set to play through the pain
Slater 6 - Pulled off some good saves to keep Thwaites in the game. Could
have done better for the second goal as it appeared the ball went through
Brook 6 - A solid performance. Gave the ball away too easily at times.
However, it will take him a few games to get used to the pace should he sign
for Thwaites on a full-time basis.
Tabbinor 6 - Started well. However, the strength of the Iden players made it
difficult to make any clean tackles. He certainly met his match against a
tough tackiling opposition. Should have scored when the goal appeared to be
at his mercy in the second half.
Slinger 5 - Has played better. Seemed scared of the opposition. Needed to
push up the field a bit more.
Hopwood 6 - Worked his socks off but for little reward. Found himself bogged
down in midfield at times due to loack of support from his colleagues.
Reid 5 - Not fully fit. Should have scored when he went one-on-one with the
Iden keeper. It could have been a completely different game had he managed
to score. Tipton 6 - Gave Iden cause for concern with his pace. However,
needs to pass earlier.
Tormay 0 - What the hell was he doing? Is already being ordered about from
his new girlfriend only weeks after meeting her. Has turned into a real soft
ass. Is a doubt for Sundays cup competition as he is currently still stuck
under an ever-growing thumb. A disgrace.....
