Thwaites hoping to put things right
Thwaites FC will be looking to bounce back from last weeks 2-0 defeat at the
hands of Iden in the 7-a-side league tonight. It is uncertain who the
brewery team face as manager Dominic Southworth has yet to look at the
fixtures. However, the game is scheduled for 7 o'clock. The brewery side,
who are full of confidence after winning the 7-a-side cup on Sunday will be
hoping they can get back to winning ways in the second game of the new
league. Thwaites had to forfeit Tuesday's game against Samba as they only
had three senior players at their disposal. They have no such problems
tonight apart from Damian Tabbinor who may not make the team due to illness.
He faces a late fitness test.
Midfield maestro Jamie Hopwood is still confident the brewery team can mount
a serious championship challenge despite last weeks disappointing defeat.
Hopwood said, ' We were disappointed at last weeks performance but still
felt we had chances to win the game. I still think we can be among the
challengers for the title. You only have to look at our record - we have won
both the 5-a-side and 7-a-side cup in the past two weeks which shows the
quality that is in our team.'
Thwaites have signed Paul McManus on a free transfer as a precautionary
measure. He will be registered for the Thursday 7-a-side league but is not
set to feature in tonight's clash.
Thwaites choose from: - P.Slater, D.Hopwood, C.Elmer, M.Slater, J.Hopwood,
S.Tormay, M.Slater, S.Tipton, D.Tabbinor
Kick off 7pm
Meanwhile, the Thwaites board of directors have confirmed that several
players were involved in lengthy discussions last night over various team
matters at the Fernhurst, Ewood. A new shirt with names and numbers is set
to be introduced for the start of next season. Kit manufacturers Pro-Star
are to produce the shirt which is believed to be black, white and red. Plans
for a new team name have been shelved for the time being until they find a
new sponsor.
