Turbulent times for Thwaites...
Its official - Thwaites FC are in freefall. The brewery team were at the
wrong end of a 6-0 thrashing against JA Foams last night which saw them
plummet to the bottom of the table. Thwaites were simply awful despite a
battling performance in a fiery affair. They were 3-0 down by half time but
were unfortunate not to have reduced the lead as Jamie Hopwood blazed over
and Gary Targett missed a sitter as he scuffed his shot with the goal
seemingly at his mercy.
Heads dropped and confidence was shattered five minutes into the second half
as JA Foams extended their lead to 4-0 after some calamitous defending.
Despite Damian Tabbinor striking the post after a surging run it was then
all one way traffic and JA Foams added two quick fire goals as they sycthed
through the Thwaites defence with ease. In the final few minutes tempers
flared and Jamie Hopwood went mad after a ridiculous challenge on him. He
had to be separated by the referee before things got out of hand. Hopwood
could well be out for Sunday's 7-a-side game as he has a badly bruised back
he picked up in the challenge.
The brewery team are now deep in the relegation mire with only three games
played and must somehow find a way back if they are to challenge for top
honours this season.
P.Slater 3 - Butter Fingers.
Tabbinor 5 - Not one of his better games. However his surges up-field gave
the opposition cause for concern.
Tormay 4 - Slow, lost the ball far too easlily.
Hopwood 5 - Worked hard, started the game well but then lost his way.
Passing let him down.
Southworth 5 - Played through the pain barrier. However - Poor
Tipton 5 - Lacked support, one of his worse performances in a Thwaites
Targett 3 - As effective as a ripped condom.
* Thwaites put their worries to one side tonight as they attend the
Annual Presentation evening. They will be collecting both 5 and 7-a-side
league cups. Admission is £3-00 on the night, however, only a few tickets
