Rotary Youth Exchange Summer Camp

Each summer, Rotary Clubs around the world host summer camps, where young people, typically 16 - 21 but can be older, are able to visit another country for two weeks.

This year, the Rotary Clubs in the Bolton area took part in hosting a camp, which covered several aspects of the town, as well as a trip to sister clubs in the Isle of Man.

Generally the format is that no more than one male and one female from each country travel to the host country making up a group of around 15 young people, who did not know each other previously.

During this summer's visit, campers from Spain, France, Czech Republic, Turkey, Roumania, Netherlands and Denmark were hosted on a sunny July afternoon by the Rotary Club of Westhoughton to a visit round the Reebok Stadium. The photo shows them having a privileged view of the television gallery, with Rotarians from the Club.

After that, they went to visit the Mayor of Westhoughton, Cllr Ron Halliwell at the Town Hall, and then had an evening meal with the Rotary Club, where they had a chance to talk about their experiences.

The visits are tremendously popular, and the campers always go away with fantastic memories and a great group of friends. If you would like to know more, have a look at www.youthribi.org for further details.
