MIGRATION TO BURNLEY

This is the story of the migration of my Great Grandfather John Wikins who was a coalminer at Radstock in the Somerset Coalfield, and who married Elizabeth Button at the Parish Church of ST Nicholas Radstock 21 November 1857.He then about 1863 moved to Coleford in the Hundred of Kilmersdon somerset where he settled, but only temporay by all accounts, in 1863 the first child was born Sarah Ann, and then in 1864 George my Grandfather was born. The family are next found through research at Brancepeth a coalmining village in the Durham Coalfield where another son is born John Isaac Samuel in 1871 followed by Thomas Henry in 1874 at Chester-Le-Street then in 1877 Richard John is born at Burnley and are all shown on the 1881 census for Burnley, and it is from these four Brothers that a great majority of Wilkins Families in Burnley are descended from. For further information on the family see my website link, and for other family historians I am sure you will find some useful research links. Happy Hunting, Warning that all census returns shown on these pages of my family are for research only and can not be used for commercial gain they are the Copyright of the Public Record Office. THE PHOTOGRAPH at the TOP of the Page is of Radstock Musuem

The Crane Family From Thetford to Burnley Lancashire

My Grandmother Emma Maria Crane migrated to Burnley with her parents William Crane and Susannah Crane late Ollington from Thetford in Norfolk and they firstly settled in Bacup. I believe that they moved on a parish relief scheme with the promise of better working conditions in Industry and Housing,or it could have been through the Railway Company something I need to investigate further. My G/Granparents William and Susan then moved to Burnley, you will see their recorded movements on the 1891 Census Table on this page however Emma Maria is not shown on the return as she married George Wilkins the Eldest son of John Wilkins who is shown on the 1891 Census table minus George and there is the connection of the Wilkins/Crane Families. Which you will be able to see on another page of Tables of Marriages and Baptism's.
I have place a link on this page for two free courses to get the beginner started. NOTES ABOUT THIS SITE

This site is undergoing reconstruction.

The objects of this site are to help Family Historians in the UK with interests in this area and those from overseas. On the first page is a brief detail of my Families migration into this area. The second page gives you some useful research links for this Area, and also some more general links. I have started in the links page by including links to the Lancashire County Council, which gives you a link to The Record Office and the County Library Service. I have then shown Links to the relevant Borough Councils for the Area which under Tourism on their sites gives you information on just what the area can offer, and should you decide to combine a break with Family History Research you can find details of accomodation in the area and Public transport links to places of interest and to The C.R.O. I have also put a link to a Family History Society and the Federation Family History Soc. This is then followed by Tribal Pages my Family Chart online which if you wish to browse please email me for a password. This is then followed by various sites for the Wilkins Family, then by some Cornish Parish sites

Mainly Linkinhorne,St IVE,Southhill,Roche. This is followed by General Research sites for Cornwall, Somerset,Norfolk.

On page three I am going to put the History of St Andrew's with St Margaret and St James Burnley, but this item will be about St Andrew's I then propose to put BAP.MAR.BUR. index for selected years for Burnley Parish churches to assist research should you find anything of interest these should be check with the m/f or micrfiche copy for correctness as you would do with any other index.

RADSTOCK MUSUEM SOCIETY

AS mentioned above on this page I thought it would be useful to include a map of how to find the Musuem when in Radstock and also a link to their website
