Minibus Appeal launched
On July 6 2002, Age Concern Feltham Hanworth and Bedfont held a Garden Party to celebrate their 20th Birthday. At the Garden Party Chief Officer, Anne Rogers, launched an Appeal to raise £94,000 for two new minibuses.
Both minibuses currently in use are past their prime, each have in excess of 100,000 miles on the clock. The minibuses are used daily to collect people from their homes and take them to the day centre and to the outside social groups organised by Age Concern Feltham Hanworth and Bedfont. Housebound people have also been taken on weekly shopping trips and Christmas Shopping trips in the minibuses.
Without these buses many less mobile and disabled older people would be housebound. The great appreciation of this service is most deeply felt when a bus is off the road for repairs, the outside social groups who suffer and have to be cancelled or hold their group with greatly diminished numbers. Every effort is made to ensure that people who attend the day centre do so as normal, using one bus to collect everyone on all the rounds.
Anyone who is interested in finding out more about the appeal or arranging a fundraising event to help, please telephone Anne Rogers, Chief Officer on (020) 8751 5829. |
