Artsdepot song
Song written by Keith Martin to celebrate the opening of the Artsdepot sung to the tune of “Save the last dance for me”. It was performed by Keith at the first meeting in November 04.
artsdepot
It was here, mid the rubble and dust that the Gaumont stood.
And we planned for a theatre to replace it if we possibly could.
And after seventeen years of campaigning, here at last it’s going to be.
So darling, save the arts, and we’re free.
With a change in the Council all the plans were up in the air.
Change the plans, from an arts centre instead we’ll put a library there!
But the threat of a public enquiry, idle builders for eternity
Saved the arts. Save the arts, and we’re free.
What we’ve created at the artsdepot
Must be looked after with great care.
To bring the public to the Tally Ho
Needs our involvement everywhere.
O my friends, I am happy to say that you are part of the act.
Now let’s plan, for a future where music and song are a fact.
Barnet College and Community Focus all add to the diversity.
So darling, save the arts, and we’re free!
It was here, mid the rubble and dust that the Gaumont stood.
And we planned for a theatre to replace it if we possibly could.
And after seventeen years of campaigning, here at last it’s going to be.
So darling, save the arts, and we’re free!
