Aikido consists of exercises with a partner that come naturally within the individuals physical limits. These exercises simulate problems in daily life and through this we learn that force and aggression are less effective in dealing with another person than mind and body co-ordination. We also learn how we interact with others, this teaches us about ourselves. Aikido offers us strategies to be more effective in daily life. There is no restriction of age, fitness or gender for aikido, everybody is welcome.

When you begin to practice you will need loose comfortable clothing and sandals or flip-flops to wear from the changing room to the mat. Toe and finger nails need to be short or taped up and jewellery must be removed. Eventually white Kidogi are worn with women also wearing a Hakama. You can join at any class, there are no specific beginners classes, or just come along and watch.
