Juliette Bausor - Flautist at our concert in March 2005

Born in Warwickshire in 1979, Juliette Bausor studied the flute with Anna Pope at the Purcell School of Music before attending the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where her flute professors included Philippa Davies, Paul Edmund Davies and Samuel Coles. In her third year she studied at the Conservatoire Nationale Superieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, with Sophie Cherrier and Vincent Lucas, She graduated with first-class honours in July 2001.
During her studies Juliette has won numerous prizes and awards. In 1997 she won the Gold Medal in the Shell/LSO Competition, playing the Nielsen Flute Concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra in the Barbican Hall. She then won the Woodwind Final of the BBC Young Musician of the Year Competition in 1998, leading to her debut in the Waterfront Hall, Belfast, with the Ulster Orchestra, before winning the Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers' Trophy in the Guildhall Gold Medal Competition 2000. In 2001 Juliette won the Gold Medal, Harrods Bank Prize and Worshipful Company of Dyers Award in the Royal Over-Seas League Competition. She was selected as a Tillett Trust Young Artist in 2002, which led to recital opportunities throughout Britain, and recently won the Philip and Dorothy Green Award for Young Concert Artists, 2004.
Juliette has performed as guest principal flute In the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Northern Sinfonia, as well as having been principal flute in the European Union Youth Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. She regularly performs as a soloist in major venues and festivals throughout Britain and abroad. Recent engagements include an evening recital in the Purcell Room as part of the Fresh Young Artists' Series, concerto appearances with the European Community Chamber Orchestra and recitals in both the Brighton and Buxton Festivals.
Abroad, Juliette has given solo recitals in Budapest, Munich, Tokyo and Namibia, as well as touring the United Arab Emirates, Australia, Thailand and Vietnam. She frequently performs with harpist Catrin Finch and re cent performances together include recitals in the Newbury Spring Festival, the Kings Lynn Festival and the Beaumaris Festival. The pair have recently returned from a tour of Thailand, where they performed in the presence of HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana to critical acclaim.
Juliette is also a member of the Linos Wind Quintet, winners of the Ensemble Prize in the Royal Over-Seas League Competition 2004. In August 2003 the Quintet gave a very successful tour of Australia, which included performances in Darwin, Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney, Newcastle and Melbourne, as well as a live ABC radio broadcast. Juliette plays on a BrannenCooper flute that was awarded to her by the Foundation for Sports and the Arts.
