Our Musical Director, Janet Haney

Janet Haney was born in Dudley in the West Midlands. She obtained a BA (Hons), GBSM and ABSM at the Birmingham School of Music and then continued with postgraduate studies at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, studying with Paul Hamburger, Graham Johnson and Alan Schiller. Since graduating Janet has been working as a freelance repetiteur and recital accompanist, and is in particular demand as a vocal coach. She has returned to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama as staff accompanist and vocal coach.
In opera, she has worked for the Royal Opera House, Harvey Goldsmith Productions, European Chamber Opera, Wexford Opera, Travelling Opera, and Opera Holland Park. Overseas projects have included work as music director for performances of Eugene Onegin on a cruise liner from St Petersburg to Moscow and in Italy where she was repetiteur continuo player in a production of La Calisto. She recently visited Reykjavik to work on Iceland Opera's production of La Boheme and toured Japan with La Traviata and Rigoletto for Pavilion Opera.
On the concert platform, Janet has performed at the Wigmore Hall, the Purcell Room and Blackheath Concert Hall. Concerts abroad have included a recital series in Nairobi and solo work with the Brandenburg Sinfonietta in Barbados. She has returned to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama as staff accompanist and vocal coach, and is also MD of the Gwalia Male Voice Choir. Janet recently completed a series of six concerts in New York with the Welsh baritone Mark Evans, and has worked on a production of Tosca in Northern Ireland for Pavilion Opera.
