Haiku Hunt Longlist

Well, you've given me an impossible task again and here is my longlist in no particular order. I was looking at another haiku contest and have to say all of these are much better than the winners - so you've all been otstanding. I'll have to whittle down to a shortlist before choosing that final one, but enjoy reading all of these again and keep them for other competitions. Don't lose them just because they're little!

You are my sunshine

Air as still as glass.
Under the bare damson tree,
a broken wasps´ nest.

Against the birch trunk
an apostophe of snow
tops the nesting box.

Ship of the desert,

King of the jungle?
He's just a big pussy cat.
Wouldn't stroke him though!

Butterfly by day
Dancing till dusk's curtain falls
Venus lit till dawn.

My sight in darkness
The voice when I am struck dumb
Calls me safely home.

by Peter B.

On Valentine's Day;
a time to remember love
in all its guises.

Frogs purr in the pond;
nocturnal chorus of love;
tadpole time again.

music in A flat

The Tokyo noise is clear
the mountains only hear
One hand clapping

Dame Helen Mirren -
best actress at the Oscars.
The sun is shining.

Her pink post-it clung
to his new stapler. All night.
Smiley face. Kisses.

Tide upon this beach
Salts the sand repeatedly
- So these tears, my face.

entranced by secret
love songs only heard by our
ears, Not introduced.

unfamiliar but full
of subtle beauty

Snow drifted by wind
conceals man’s goemetry
builds a world of curves.

Dawn steals in, gives
housefronts slow, stony facelifts
as street lamps flick out.
