ST. JOHN'S WIVES GROUP - A SHORT HISTORY
Born in 1965 as St. John’s Young Wives, the Group’s initial intention was to set up a meeting place for young mothers to meet others in similar circumstances, and to enjoy adult company for a short while! As the group has grown and matured, as have the membership, the needs and name have changed, although the aims and nature of the group have not.
The group meets on the first and third Mondays of each month from September to July in St. John the Baptist Church Hall, Church Lane, Loughton, Essex, and a programme of speakers, events, outings etc. is arranged. Following each speaker or demonstration, there is plenty of time to enjoy a cup of tea/coffee and biscuits and socialise with other members of the group. All visitors and new members will be most welcome.

RECENT EVENTS
At our last meeting, we were entertained by Kay Beighton when she showed slides of her trek across Turkey. We saw the mosques and churches dotted all over the country and were told many amusing stores of events that happened to her and her husband along the way.
Our next meeting is our Tea Afternoon followed by our annual Cheese & Wine Evening when we will be presenting a cheque representing our fund raising efforts throughout the year. Our outing this year is in July and this will close proceedings for this year.
A committee for next year has been formed and the programme of events will hopefully be completed in the near future. The charity selected to be supported for the year 2013/14 is Educating Girls in Nepal, which is run by a local resident.
As mentioned under, we are always open to new members, so if you live in the Loughton (or wider) area please do pop in, if only to see what we are about- you never know, you might enjoy it.
As always, new members (or visitors) are always welcome - we meet on the first and third Monday of the month at 8pm in St John's Church Hall, Loughton, to commence at 8.15pm and finish with tea and biscuits with the inevitable socialising and chatting.
AS A MATTER OF INTEREST, THIS IS A WIVES GROUP, AND MEN ARE NOT NORMALLY WIVES!!

This charity is run by a local lady who has for many years been visiting Nepal in an effort to get a education for the young girls to enable them to have a career and a future. She has set up her own school and is hoping to add another soon. Every penny goes to the charity, so every penny counts.
