What is Brownies?
Brownies is a uniformed organisation for girls between 7 and 10. Everything a Brownie does is an adventure - it's a world of excitement, new interests and friends. Brownies take part in indoor and outdoor activities that challenge them to do their best. Their meetings are action-packed and full of challenges, games and activities, usually ones that the Brownies have suggested themselves. Brownies have fun!
Brownies meet regularly, usually once a week during school terms. There are often opportunities for Brownies to take part in special activities and events throughout the year, such as outings, holidays, camps or overnight sleepovers. | |
|
Who can be a Brownie?
Brownies are usually aged between seven and ten, although some Brownies stay in the unit until they are a little bit older. Any girl over the age of seven can become a Brownie as long as she is able to understand, and wants to make, the Brownie Guide Promise. Brownies belong to a Pack and work in small groups called Sixes. This gives each girl a group of ready-made friends to take care of her. It also makes her feel that she belongs to something special.

Brownies at St Peter’s
 | | Brownies at St Peter’s enjoy a wide range of activities. As well as learning more about what it means to be a Brownie, we work towards badges – most recently, some of us have gained our Friend to Animals, Brownie Traditions, Musician and Brownie Holiday badges. But it’s not just about badges and it isn’t all work at Brownies. We have plenty of time for crafts, boisterous games and fun and for the last two years we have also been on a Brownie holiday. |

What’s the best thing about Brownies?

Joining Brownies
Brownies is run entirely by volunteers. The Brownie pack at St Peter’s is over-subscribed and we currently have a waiting list, but we could expand the pack if we could recruit a third helper willing to commit to coming every week.
Anyone interested in finding out more – either about becoming a Brownie or about opportunities for volunteering - is welcome to contact us via email at brownies@stpeters-streatham.org. More information about Brownies can be found at www.girlguiding.org.uk or follow the link below. |

The scouting movement was founded 100 years ago and the centenary of Guiding is fast approaching. We have been thinking about what Brownies has to offer the 21st century girl.
These extracts and pictures are what the Brownies have said.
Moonbeam, Maple Leaf, Wolf, Robin, Eclipse and all the Brownies.
