Fun and games in the park
On Saturday 7 August a group from Nova visited the club for the annual knockout competitions, disco and barbecue. The day looked fairly overcast and we were all hopeful the rain would stay off. We met at the club around 1.30pm, and the 30 members from each club got into teams eager to get outside to start the games. We began with Relay Hockey, however after a short while a few drops of rain began to fall, but undeterred we carried on, but had to give in a few minutes later as it poured down. We went into the club and played New Age Curling until the rain stopped, which it did eventually and we were able to carry on outside for the rest of the day. After continuing the Relay Hockey, the teams competed in the egg and spoon race, putting and rocket game. There was lots of cheering and laughter amongst the teams and good-hearted competitiveness. We ended with a water game where a lot of helpers and members got a good soaking - by choice this time and not the weather! After all the activity we were ready for our barbecue. The sun came out and we ate our hamburgers and hotdogs either outside or in the club. We also had a drink and crisps, followed by a jelly and fruit dessert. The disco continued indoors, Robin was DJ and we danced along to well known hits and party songs, including dancing the conga around the room and outside. The winners of the games were Nova A team who scored 28 points. The winner of the most points collected was also a Nova member with 70 points in total. The Nova Leader collected the trophy on behalf of the club, and thanked Penrose for an enjoyable time. The day finished around 9pm.
