17th NOVEMBER. The Btn were to have taken "The Hook", but the Bosche attacked the "Gird" and retook it.
The Gird and Hook were names of Trenches, held by the Germans in the area between the villages of Flers to the right and Thilloy to the left. Diary - This made the attack impossible. It was a pity, as we had established posts and tapes back all round the Hook and aided by Flank attack by the 4th East Yorks Bn might have collared the Hook and part of the Gird.
The Btn were relieved by the 1st Camerons Btn and returned to the High Wood area. |
