Energy Efficiency Information

Energy Efficiency Information

It's estimated that each household in the UK wastes an average of £200 a year on energy in the home. In Hartlepool that means that as much as £7 million pounds could be going up in smoke every year! Imagine what you could do with that sort of money! And think of the damage we're doing to the environment by wasting so much energy.

So what can you do to make your home more comfortable, more efficient and less damaging to the environment?
· First of all check that your home is fully insulated. Your home loses most heat through the roof and walls so insulating these will make your home warmer and reduce your fuel bills. Hartlepool runs a local discount scheme, HARTWARMERS, which offers up to 50% off the cost of loft and cavity wall insulation. Ring 0800 512012 for more details.
· Has your central heating boiler seen better days? If so you will be wasting money and polluting the atmosphere. A high efficiency boiler could reduce your running costs by as much as a quarter.
· We never give much thought to how much energy domestic appliances use, but we rely on fridges, freezers and washing machines all year round. Look for models that are A or B rated, and avoid energy guzzling models that are F or G rated. The most efficient fridge-freezer could save you £46 a year on your electric bill.
· When your normal, humble light bulb blows try replacing it with a low energy light bulb. They use 80% less energy and last up to twelve times longer than a normal bulb.

These are just a few of the things you can do to save energy, save money and help the environment, but don't take our word for it, visit the following sites for more information. You might be surprised at how little it could cost to save on your fuel bills.
