Who are Encore and what do we do?
We are a group of people aged over 50 (including over 80's)who hope, that while we enjoy ourselves, we can highlight the hopes, fears, needs and achievements of the upper age bracket.
We meet every Tuesday between the hours of 10am and 12 noon at Holy Trinity Church Hall, Davison Drive, West View.
We each pay 50p into the club funds and this pays for our refreshments.
We believe that every group member is just as important as the next and that each individual's views, opinions and roles are of equal and valued importance.
Members travel from various parts of the town so there is always someone to travel with if needed.

Aims & Objectives of Encore
The aim of our group is to highlight and tackle the many issues associated with ageism and negative stereotyping. We use arts and drama to highlight their causes and effects and portray ways in which these may be counteracted.
Our objectives are as follows:-
# The group who have come together feel that friendship and harmony are their number one priority.
# Old skills are rekindled and new ones learnt.
# Having fun and making new friends helps to break down barriers associated with growing older.
# Chat about physical, social and mental aspects of being over 50 years old and how we can positively promote the good points.
# Encourage more people to join in our fun and activities.

Poets Corner - To preserve a husband
Select with care: young and green varieties take longer to cook tender but are excellent when done. Those too crusty take a long time to cook tender. One neither hard nor soft gives best satisfaction. Do not keep in a pickle, nor in hot water, nor prick to test tenderness as this leaves a mark. Even poor varieties may be made sweet and tender by this method
Wrap in a mantle of charity and keep warm over a steady fire of loving domestic devotion. Garnish with patience, sweeten with smiles, flavour with kisses to taste. Serve with peaches and cream.
Thus prepared, they will keep for years. |
Poets Corner - Recipe For Making Friends
Choose some sound hearts, be very careful not to bruise with unkind words. Add plenty of tact, warm the mixture with sympathy but do not get it hot at first or it may ferment mischief. Knead it with of oil of unselfishness to make all smooth. The mixture should be kept in a warm corner of the heart. Years serve only to improve the flavour of friends thus preserved. |
