Welcome to Acklam 2020

Where is Acklam?
Middlesbrough is a post-industrial town in the North East of England. It has a rather charmless town centre but, to compensate the town is set near to some glorious countryside. The Lakes, The Border Country, The Northumbrian coast and North Yorks Moors are all within easy driving distance. There are many attractive market towns nearby and Whitby, where Captain Cook began his seafaring career is close by.

Acklam is a suburb lying on the southern edge of the town. Before the growth of Middlesbrough in the 19th century, Acklam was the principal settlement, boasting a large manor house. Industrial Middlesbrough was built on the northern fringes of the Acklam Estate.

What is Acklam 2020 and what do we do?

Acklam 2020 is a small, community based, enviromental group. The group's objectives are:
- to campaign on issues affecting the environment of the Acklam area.
- To initiate and to execute projects to enhance and to conserve the environment of Acklam.
- To encourage interest and awareness of Acklam residents in their historical and environmental heritage.
