Undercover Artists

The Undercover Artists is a Youth Art Project running in Thornaby through a partnership of The Five Lamps Organisation, Cleveland Arts, Stockton Borough Council Adult Education and the young people who have accessed the project. Involving people primarily aged 16 – 25 it aims to develop skills in a number of art forms and build confidence and communication skills. There is also support provided with basic skills for those who want to improve their English and Maths.

Participants have so far enjoyed workshops in:
Graffitti Art
Creative Writing – poems have been showcased at the Cornerhouse in Middlesbrough at the well established monthly Verb Garden event with two of the artists getting up for the open mike slot.
Acting – workshops have been led by Leslie Simpson a local actor who has recently starred in Dog Soldiers a film that has had a nationwide release.
African Drumming
Mandalas – large pieces of interactive abstract art created in public places using food products to stimulate the senses.
Sound Scapes
Set Design
Other activities have included a visit to the contemporary play Vigo at Teesside University and three residential days out to experience different environments. The Artists are currently working towards a performance art production and a book containing examples of their work.
