Aldbrough Feast
 | This site is not a history of Aldbrough Feast. You can find more about that by clicking the link below. Please note, however, that that site is badly out of date regarding the current Feast and its webmaster is now living overseas.
It is enough here to say that the Feast has its origins back in a charter of 1281 granted to the then town of Aldbrough to hold a fair and a market.
Note that it is Aldbrough Feast - not Aldbrough St John Feast. The 'St John' addition was a C20 device by the post office to identify this Aldbrough before the days of post codes.
Our photo, above, is of an occurence that usually takes place at least once during the Feast when the marquee needs to be moved from one site to another. Doing it this way is much easier than dismantling it and having to re-erect it.

Feast Grants
The Feast uses surplus funds to help towards the costs of small projects within the village.
These have included:
- replacement gate for the church
- village Christmas tree which is erected in the church grounds
- donation to the Cricket Club to encourage the next generation of cricketers
- replacement of some of the daffodils on the green
- new benches to be purchased to be placed near the Cricket Club
The photograph shows Simon Willis of Caldwell, the young craftsman who made the new gate for the church, partly funded by the Feast.

Feast equipment
 | The marquee, shown above, and a collection of patio tabels and chairs, and various other bits of equipment useful for outdoor celebrations can all be borrowed by local people and organisations if needed.
Contact the Chairman for details. There is no fixed scale of charges but an appropriate donation to Feast funds probably won't be refused.
This photo shows the Feast's patio tables and chairs in use at the recent Royal Wedding Picnic. |

Replenishing the furniture stock
The green resin tables and chairs that the Feast was given some years ago, are now showing signs of age and some tables and chairs will have to be discarded in the interests of safety.
If you are replacing serviceable stacking patio furniture with something more stylish, don't just throw out the old stuff. Providing it is sturdy, it can still be slightly scruffy and the Feast can make use of it. The oval tables with detachable legs, and stacking chairs are what is needed. If you can help contact the Chairman. (see contacts) |
