Aldbrough Feast
 | This site is not really a history of Aldbrough Feast. You can find more about that by clicking the link below.
It is enough here to say that the Feast has its origins back in a charter of 1281 granted to the then town of Aldbrough to hold a fair and a market.
Note that it is Aldbrough Feast - not Aldbrough St John Feast. The 'St John' addition was a C20 device by the post office to identify this Aldbrough before the days of post codes.
On this site we are showing some of the photos and recording some of the activities of the 2006 Feast. The 2006 Feast ran from Saturday 12 August to Sunday 20 August. We've also set up a poll where you can vote for your favourite scarecrow and see if you agree with the judges.
The picture of the green sets the scene in the village and was taken at the end of the 2004 duck race. All is once more calm and tranquility in Aldbrough after a week of excitement and fun.
During the year we will try to update it with details of the 2007 Feast. |

Feast Grants
 | The Feast uses surplus funds to help towards the costs of small projects within the village.
This year they have agreed to assist the following:
- replacement gate for the church
- village Christmas tree which is erected in the church grounds
- donation to the Cricket Club to encourage the next generation of cricketers
- replacement of some of the dafodils on the green
- new benches to be purchased to be placed near the Cricket Club
The photo shows the 2005 tree which was was purchased by the Feast. Churchwardens Jim Coote and John Gill on the left with Rev Stan Haworth and Feast Chairman David Robinson on the right |

2006 Ballloon Race (See Saturday 19 August page)
This year the Feast held a balloon race for the first time and allowed plenty of time for tags to be returned - up to the end of September.
The winner was Feast Chairman David Robinson who has had his leg pulled on many an occasion when he has won raffle prizes and the famous Duck Race.
This win will no doubt earn more comments and raised eyebrows but we couldn't possibly put them on the web-site. Suffice to say David provides an incredible level of support to the Feast. |
