The Gymkhana

The gymkhana is held on the green on Monday afternoon along with a cake stall. This year we did well - we managed to photograph the cake stall before all the cakes were sold.
The gymkhana is organised by Ginny Jukes who puts in an awful lot of work to great effect.

Ably assisted by....

David Robinson, the Feast Chairman doing a great job 'supervising'
Well, as you can see, he was actually doing the commentary and making the announcements.
He also made the front cover of the local parish and community magazine. So quite a pin up then.

Girls on Ponies

The amazing thing about the gymkhana (I say this as a fairly recently converted 'townie') is the number of extremely small girls handling what look like terrifyingly large horses and ponies with confidence and aplomb.
And there are even a few boys there too.

Show Jumping

Of course one of the main activities at any gymkhana is the show jumping.

Not Only but Also

Though in addition to the show jumping there are lots of other 'fun' classes including the fancy dress. We'll leave you to reach your own conclusions on this one.

The Tea Tent

One of the most important eatures of the gymkhane is the Tea Tent where a sterling band of volunteers keeps up a constant supply of tea, pop, biscuits, hot dogs etc from before the ghymkana proper starts until after it is over. You can just make them out through the steam.

Cake Stall

Along with the tea tent is a cake stall selling vast quantities of home-made cakes given by people in the village. Some of it was probably made to enter in the previous Saturday's show.
You have to be quick to get your cakes. They usually disappear like snow off a dyke. We managed to get there while about half of it was still available.
It's ably run by Jean Brown obviously with a helper this year.
