The Aldbrough World Cup Football Tournament

Well - it's world famous round here and is organised most efficiently by Mark Thornton.
The Aldbrough Feast 6-a-side football tournament attracted 13 teams this year and was, by all accounts, a cracking good competition (I'm afraid I didn't spend long there having other things to do and even if I had, I am no judge of such things).
Two pitches were in use this year which helped to make the day run more smoothly and refreshments were on sale from Aldbrough's redoubtable tea and cake dispensers.
In the end Barton won and I'm still waiting to find out who came second.

Arts and Crafts

Meanwhile, whilst the footballers were slogging it out on the green, in the village hall the competition was on a less active basis but none the less keen.
There are two separate competitions, one for children and another for adults.
There were lots of entries from the children but not so many from the grown-ups.
Here are some from the younger children.

Model Fish

Some of the slightly older children had produced these model fish.
Some good co-ordination with the primary school attended by most of the children helps to ensure the success of the children's classes in the show.

Model Animals

Some of the older children had produced these model animals from all sorts of materials.

Grow Up Crafts

This splendid ship made by Briam Thomas is not yet finished. He reckons there is still about a further year of work to do on it. Nevertheless it impressed the judge sufficisntly to win First Prize.
The jolly clown was an entry in the Knitted Article class which attracted several entries.

Second Prize

This splendid clock won second prize. It was entered by Iris Smith on behalf of her late husband, Billy, who was a very talented model engineer.
