Welcome to the Allerton Players' website!
The Allerton Players are a group of people who regularly put on plays and other entertainments in and around Northallerton.
We try to have two main productions per year: one in spring and one in autumn. In addition, there are opportunities to get involved in small, one off productions for Drama Festivals or drama events at which we get invited to perform.
As well as putting on dramatic performances the Allerton Players have an active social calendar, and host play readings, theatre trips and workshops, as well as purely social occasions such as Christmas parties and quiz evenings.
The more members we have, the bigger and better we can make our productions for the people in and around Northallerton. We actively encourage all members of the community to get involved, but would be particularly interested in hearing from men who would like to act.
If you are interested in getting involved please use the Mail Form link at the side to email us.
We are also always looking for photos of previous productions to put on this website as it is fascinating to see how the society put on plays in the past. If you have any we could borrow - and we promise to be careful with them and return them safely - then please get in touch.

History of the Players
The Allertonshire Players, as they were called then, were formed in 1942 initially as an adult education class associated with the Allertonshire School. They produced two or three productions a year at the school as part of their studies, usually in the holidays so that the school was not in use. Nowadays we put our productions on in Spring and Autumn, at round about the times of the school half terms, even though we do not use the school anymore. So there is still a small adherence to tradition! It also explains why the Players' AGM is always in July, at the end of an academic year.
The Players became the Allerton Players when they became independent of the school and a separate organisation in their own right.
Over the years various members have kept photos, programmes and news clippings and the setting up of this website has given the opportunity to gather these together in one place, and they make fascinating reading. To view the archive, please click on the appropriate title in the menu on the left. To whet your appetite, there is a photo of the First Allertonshire Players Annual Dinner in 1947 at the Station Hotel.
