Welcome to the rotary club of Alnwick, District 1030

Rotary International is the world’s longest established and largest voluntary service organisation. First established 100 years ago, in February 1905, there are now 1.2 million members serving communities across every continent in the world. In Britain, there are over 1800 Rotary Clubs with over 60,000 members.

The Rotary Club of Alnwick was chartered in 1938; it currently has 46 members from a range of professional interests from computing, banking and education, to law, stock broking and motor engineering. Each member serves on one of the club’s service committees – Membership and Public Relations and Projects and Foundation. Within these groups are sub groups who deal with the more detailed aspects in order to ensure the club is providing a service to the community. There is also a club Council which oversees the main strategies of the club and diffuses policy into working practices.

Meetings are held every Thursday in the White Swan Hotel meeting at 12.30 p.m., for a light meal at 12.40 p.m., followed by a business meeting or guest speaker. Meetings normally finish at 2.00 p.m.

Membership of Rotary is open to men and women who are, or who have been, in positions of responsibility in their profession or organisation. Members are expected to attend at least 60% of the club’s meetings in order to be able to fully participate in the club’s activities. They are also expected to attend relevant committee and sub groups meetings and to turn out for Rotary events. There is an annual membership fee plus the cost of the weekly meal.
