The Book! Compiled by Sheila Barker.

Published by Tempus publishers

1917

These lovely pictures captured on Redcar beach during 1917 tell their own story of life in the Victorian era. The young lady standing beside the table wearing a pinny was Nellie Ramsdale who was working in service to a family who lived on Coatham road..(.but ....Who were the family ?) also in the photo is a young man in uniform, which is another sign of the times as this was significant of The Great War. 1914 - 1918

Nellie contracted TB whilst working for the family and unfortunately died at a very young and tender age.
The young lady standing to the far right is is Nellies younger sister Alice.

Below

Nellie and Alice pose together for another poignant picture on Redcar sands .

The New Pavilion.

At the beginning of the present century (the then local authority) erected a glass shelter over the old skating rink, and gave the place a new lease of life as "Cozy Corner" and was the home for some years of Billy Scarrow’s pierrots.
During 1928 the "glasshouse" as it was known (a description still heard occasionally) was rebuilt as a theatre and called the
“ New Pavilion."
