1854
Zetland Square was affectionately known as Fishermen's square as the occupants made their living as fishermen
In 1854 following an outbreak of Cholera, the owner of the properties Lord Zetland had new homes built for the fishermen, with much improved sanitation, The 22 new homes were named South Terrace, often referred to as Fishermen's row which applied in the 1881 census | |

Numbers 9 & 10 are the two cottages with the lookout built into the roof...
When Granville Terrace was built ( from 1910 onwards) they left a space in the centre so that a lookout could see the fishing boats going and returning after fishing..They did of course fill this in later with houses.
The house numbers along Granville Terrace had to be renumbered when they built some properties at the beginning of the Terrace as it joined the High Street.
My old deeds when I lived in number 9 Granville had been altered from number 6.
