My family lived at 2 Albert street Redcar I have many childhood memories of those years, and will contribute photographs to your site.
I remember that next to our home there was an alleyway and accross the alley was a Slaughter house,
No 8 Albert street was owned by a Mr Spence who also owned the house that we lived in.
Across the road diagnally was a shop, it was on the corner of Albert and Wilton Streets it was a shop which sold everything, the owner was a lady named Mrs Brenchley.
At the top of Albert Street there was a fruiter named Boynton Tate.
Down the back alley there was also a milk dairy, I think it was called Ramshores.
Turning into Wilton street there was Spence Shop, and across the road was a coragated building, it was called The Empire Theatre/Hall.
When the war came The Empire was all taken down and the bricks were all used to help build air raid shelters in peoples back yards.
At the bottom of Wilton street as you turned right into Regent Street there was a wood Yard called Warrens.
Back into Regent Street was another dairy where I would be sent, with a jug ,to collect the milk, I always had a drink of the fresh milk before I took it home.
When the dairy closed down the area was used for refuge collectors.
There was also riding stables somewhere near Regent St and Red Lion Street.
