Can you help us?

We are hoping this website will build into a valuable archive of information about the Aycliffe Angels and The Aycliffe Royal Ordnance Factory.

If you were an Angel (we realise you may be quite elderly now, but there are many 'Silver Surfers' out there who use The Internet) or a family member who's Mother, Grandmother, Auntie, Uncle, Sister, Brother or any other relative worked at the factory then -

WE NEED YOUR HELP PLEASE...

We are looking for original photographs, documents, maps, diagrams, pass cards, newspaper or magazine cuttings and any other items which refer to the factory and it's workers.

If you have any such items then please get in touch via the Mail Form on this site.

Whilst you are here, we would also appreciate you leaving your name in our GUESTBOOK. Please click the link below to leave your details.

Thanks

We are looking for certain people

In addition to documents and memorabilia, we are also looking for information about surviving workers and their families.

We are looking for information from local people (Aycliffe Village, Heighington, Shildon etc.) who may be able to tell us a bit more about the factory and it's workers.

We are looking for anyone who may have any information about one of the Factory Superintendents, Captain Richard Humble (pictured left) or any of his surviving family.

Do you have any photos of the ROF site after it was abandoned at the end of the war (late 1945 - mid 1946), before the Trading Estate was started, or of any of the buildings which were used by companies in the very early days of the Aycliffe Industrial Park?

Where does all this information come from?

Many of the photographs and some of the graphics on this site are courtesy of The Northern Echo archive, originally donated by 'Angels' themselves, following newspaper articles and appeals.

Please do not copy, reproduce or use any of these images without asking permission first.

Some images and illustrations are courtesy of Darlington Library and the County Durham Archive and are used with permission.

Some photos are courtesy of Hydro Polymers, Newton Aycliffe (formerly the Bakelite factory) and are used with permission.

Other generic and historic images have been sourced from sites on the Internet and are used on the basis that we believe them to be 'freeware' or 'Royalty-free'. If you spot an image which does not fall into this category and you believe we are using the image without the necessary permission or licence then please let us know ASAP and we will either remove the image or pay the necessary licensing fee.

Most of the Wartime poster images are from a Website called Earthstation1.com and we believe them to be either royalty-free or are images previously purchased by The Northern Echo for library purposes. Please click the link below to visit the Earthstation1.com website.
