Have you ever massaged your child?
|
Ann Ball teaches mums in the NE to massage their babies.
 What is baby massage?
Its a form of loving communication that fosters bonding and trust between parent and child.
The massage consists of:-
legs and feet,
stomach with a specific colic, constipation and wind routine,
chest,
arms,
back
face.
The massage is made up of Indian-style massage, Swedish massage, Reflexology and gentle exercises (yoga-style movements).
Baby massage classes are open to all parents and babies, to aid their healthy development. So healthy, or colicky, your baby will still benefit from the massage, come and learn.
"Being touched and caressed, being massaged, is food for the infant. Food as necessary as minerals, vitamins and proteins".
Dr Frederick Leboyer

What happens at the classes
Classes are held over 4-5 weeks, slowly building up the massage routine to suit the baby's pace. All of the techniques are demonstrated and explained fully by Ann on a doll, and the parents then massage their own babies.
If baby is asleep or a bit tetchy, a doll will be provided to practise on.
(It is up to the parents to practice these skills in between classes to build up the baby's tolerance).
Ann discusses many aspects of the baby massage, explaining the benefits of the particular massage movements, with plenty of opportunity to ask questions, or go over any of the movements again.
Yoga-style exercises are introduced at the end of the course, this helps to encourage the baby's development ready for crawling, and to strengthen their backs.
