Whistle Stop Competition 2007
After the unseasonal weather this year it was with some trepidation that the planning went ahead but confidence was maintained and we were rewarded with the first fine and mostly sunny day for 4 weeks.
Some clubs in the local area had to cancel their whistle stop competitions due to low response but we were eventually able to assemble a full 24 teams but this was not achieved until after the closing date for entries.
Neil Emsen once again agreed to forgo bowling and, assisted at all times by his wife Paula, to organise the competition and the scoring system. They were very well supported by the club members who arranging the green markings, various raffles and the high quality and standard of the food to be served in the Clubhouse throughout the day.
The groundsman's team and Julian Coady excelled in the outdoor presentation of the grounds as did Barbara Hardy inside the Clubhouse by its presentation and her organising of the club teams into a kitchen rota during their breaks.
Many other club members gave their support in lots of ways throughtout the day to ensure all, organisers, club members and visitors had a pleasant and enjoyable day and without their help and support the day could not have been triumph that it was.
The teams list caused some amusement lightening the atmosphere of the day. A frequent question was "Where is Safe? I've never heard if it." - the answer "It isn't a place - it was the first letters of the name of the team members before they had to change some players" caused some amusement. |
