History of Bishop Auckland Photograpic Society

- A Brief History of Bishop Auckland Photographic Society

The club was formed in 1899 and is now the only club in the Northern Federation to have maintained continuous existence since that time. The first meetings took place in the Temperance Hotel and Coffee Palace, Newgate Street. Other venues have included: 11 Silver Street; 1 Silver Street and until 1968 the Grosvenor Club. In 1969 the Society moved to the Technical College and following a brief spell at the Wesleyan Chapel has met at the Lightfoot Centre since 1986.
The Society celebrated the centenary season with an exhibition at the Discovery Centre in the Market Place entitled “One Hundred Not Out”. This was accompanied by a detailed history of the club compiled by Cliff Howe which incorporated a cd of the photographs in the exhibition.

Georgian Theatre Exhibition

Members of Bishop Auckland Photographic Society - Digital Group are holding an Exhibition of Digital Prints.

These prints will have been produced using the Club's equipment that was purchased with the aid of a grant from the Lottery for All.

This enable the Society to purchase a High Resolution Digital Projector, Laptop computer, and an A3 Printer complete with appropriate photographic software and also consumables.

The exhibition is held in the Galleries at The Georgian Theatre in Richmond.

The exhibition will be open to the public for the month of September subject to the normal opening times of the theatre.

It is anticipated that each of our members that take part in the Exhibition will produce at least two prints up to A3 size which are availible to buy, unframed, at £40 each.
