Public Inquiry

As now mentioned on the Home Page, a Public Inquiry has been held at Bowburn Community Centre which ultimately finished on 27 June 2003. It lasted altogether about 4 weeks but a decision is not expected until about Christmas.

It is our intetion to maintain this site at least until the decision is announced.

update on wind turbines

An application has also been made to the City Council to erect 2 wind turbines on the escarpment. These are huge. The towers will be 78 metres high (about 240 feet) and each sail 40 metres long (about 120 feet). The total height therefore is about 117 metres (about 350 feet). They will be visible from a wide area.

The City Council have refused planning permission for these but the applicants have appealed against that decision. The Turbines were not considered at the Opencast Public Inquiry and at present no date has been fixed for this appeal to be heard.
