Environmental Impact

Should the development go ahead, there may be considerable consequences on local residents' health and quality of life. These include increased road traffic in the form of heavily-laden lorries, noise, dust and air pollution.

Recent Mineral Workings at Old Quarrington

This was the scene in Old Quarrington following the intensification of mineral workings at Old Quarrington Quarry during the mid 1980s - before the present access road was constructed to the Quarry for use by wagons. Verges were churned to mud, articulated lorries swept dust into the air and the road was so badly damaged it had to be totally rebuilt.

No, we do not expect the Bowburn to Coxhoe road to deteriorate to this condition if this proposal is given planning permission. But we do expect significant dust even if there are wheel wash facilities - just look at the road outside Thrislington Quarry for example.

Yes, we do say we have had enough. The mid 1980's was a dreadful time at Old Quarrington and no one should be expected to endure further mineral workings so close to their homes twice.
News pictures in the aftermath of a tropical typhoon? No! The road to Old Quarrington laid waste by heavy lorries.
