The hall,commonly known as the village hall, was opened in 1964. It was paid for through local fundraising and built by local builders. It has served the community well for 40 years. Current user groups include BATS (Bowes Amateur Theatrical Society),Bowes Women's Institute,Bowes Local History Group, Parent & Toddler Group, Craft Group, Country Dance Group and the Carpet Bowls Group. The hall also hosts visiting professional groups through the North Pennine Highlights Scheme and is a venue for social events, training courses and other performances.
