Fibromyalgia
Who is affected by fibromyalgia?
Fibromyalgia, is very common in the United Kingdom.Women are affected far more often than men, although men and children also get fibromyalgia. While fibromyalgia can occur at any age, the chances of acquiring it increase with age. Those who are most likely to be diagnosed include
• Women in their mid-30s to late 50s.
• Men and women age 70 or older.
• People who also have an autoimmune disorder, such as Lupus or Rheumatoid arthritis
• Those who have recently had an infectious disease, such as Lyme disease
Fibromyalgia sometimes occurs with other muscle or joint diseases or chronic pain conditions. This can make fibromyalgia difficult to diagnose.
Thankfully, there are a number of support groups in the United Kingdom.
