Welcome to BromptonMatters website
 | (Entrance to Brompton village via Little Lane from A684)
About us - the Background story -
This BromptonMatters website was created originally to satisfy a need/requirement to make available images of maps, people, places, documents etc for List members of the Opc-NRY-Brompton-by-Northallerton mailing list which ran very successfully from 2003 until 2007 when the mailing list ceased to operate because of technical problems.
In May 2007 the Brompton Heritage Group came on board the BromptonMatters website, with the aim of assembling a number of items of information relating to Local Village Heritage & History.
The site continued to be an aid to anyone researching their Family History however although the website has had a message board,a guest book and a page for listing Searches for Ancestors, it has in no way been a substitute for exchanging information as can be done on an active Forum.
This site has developed into a very useful aid for anyone interested in the Local History of Brompton and it has now become quite an extensive record of Village life.
Now that the new "British Genealogy - Brompton by Northallerton" Forum is up and running again, it is anticipated that the Website and the Forum will run in parallel as an aid to research relating to all aspects of Village History, the Forum being the place to be for Family History research.
Visit the "British Genealogy - Brompton by Northallerton" Forum by clicking on the link below:-

WHY BROMPTON BY NORTHALLERTON ???
 | We have used the title "BROMPTON BY NORTHALLERTON" to differentiate between the various Bromptons, some of which are fairly common.............
We are not in Brompton-on-Swale, Brompton by Sawdon or Sawdon in Brompton or Brompton Scarborough, Patrick Brompton or indeed any other Brompton other than the one and only Brompton by Northallerton which is situated a mile and a half to the north of Northallerton just off the A684 between Northallerton and Osmotherley - hence "Brompton-by-Northallerton".
It is a mile and a half when walking but only a mile in the car and even shorter on the Market bus.................. |
