Brompton Football Club
This section will chronicle the story of the club from its formation in 1901.
|
How the club was formed
Like most villages around the area Brompton had several keen football players but no set league or fixtures to play in since the finish of the old league in 1898, in 1901 a committee was formed to start a new league the following is an extract of this meeting taken from the original committee minutes book that reads as following.
For sometime back the question of resuscitating the game of football locally under proper club management has been frequently debated in order to give practical shape to a general opinion that it is desirable to form a club for Brompton, a meeting was convened at the Three Horse Shoes Inn on June 7th at 8 o’clock.
Previous to this meeting a meeting representative of several places in Northallerton and neighbourhood interested in the formation of a Football League had been held and it as decided to accept the offer of the trustees for the Elliott and Millbank cups, who had kindly offered these trophies for competition again. Brompton having been in the old league was asked to join thus to take definitive action and a meeting was called as mentioned above.
