CLARK, BUCKLE, ELGIE, KILVINGTON,
 | My name is Rosalyn Greenwood nee Clark and my father's family all come from Brompton. My GGG Stephen and Elizabeth Clark nee Elgie farmed at Brompton banks and their son Robert Clark who married Elizabeth Kilvington also farmed at Brompton. The children were born in Brompton, they are all buried in St Thomas' and I imagine went to school there, as well as being married Robert and Elizabeth retired from Brompton Banks to Ivy Cottage next to Sandgate House(pictured above) I understand now demolished, with their daughter Annie born 1867. Annie married Thomas Robinson. She died in 1950 and Thomas died in 1955, does anyone remember them? Harry, Annie's brother and my grandfather lived at Fox Cover Farm, Hutton Bonville and married Martha Ann Buckle who lived at Palm Hall, I think demolished. Harry's sister was Elizabeth born 1861 and married Joseph Young they all lived in Brompton. The census returns for 1841 have GG as a butcher living in Cockpit Hill, 1851, at Fullcar Lane. Stephen Clark built the steam flower mill along with William Whittaker and William Foggin and Clarks Yard is still in Brompton. Apparently, Beverly Garth was lived in by Clarks and near the mill was a bakery called Beverly Bakery

SEDGWICK/DIXON/WIGFIELD
Hi, I am hoping someone can help with information on the above families. For Marmaduke Sedgwick I haven't his birth date, but he died 1/3/1879 in the Brompton by Northallerton area. Marmaduke's wife was Mary Ann Dixon. Mary Ann's christening was 27/10/1815 and died after 1881, so I am after her death date. Thomas Dixon was her father (29/9/1787) - East Whitton, but I don't know when he died. Thomas married Elizabeth Wigfield on 29/10/1814 in Northallerton. Elizabeth was born in the March quarter 1793 (as Widfield), and I have no idea when she died.
Best wishes, Denise. email to clarke2@vtown.com.au

BAILEY family and Low Fields, Kettlewell,Stobthorn Farm etc
I am interested in the Bailey family of Low Fields and Kettlewell House, Brompton and in particular the head of the family Joseph Bailey (1796-1869) who has a fairly large but very worn gravestone in the Parish churchyard, immediately on the right as one enters from the green - commemorating himself, his wife Jane Flintoff (1803-1878) and two grown children. Neither Joseph or Jane were born in Brompton, but a great many children were between 1831 and 1848. Anyone with information regarding the family, Low Fields or Kettlewell House, Stobthorn Farm etc. I would love to hear from, or conversely, share information with.

William Tindale and Mary Ridsdale
We have a very extensive Tindale family tree from a Robert Tindall (Tindale) born 10th April 1808 Bapt 12 April 1808 in Brompton. He went into the army in 1825 and was attested at Leeds, then went to India to serve in the British Raj. We have everything from him downwards. Does he fit with anybody else? He had a sister named Sarah Tindall born 26th Jan 1811 and thier mother and father were William Tindale and Mary Ridsdale possibly born 1784 in Brompton also. We had a 1536 Tindale bible in our family from then and our family are listed in it. It is said our line comes from the sister of the Reformer William Tynedale. Anybody can help would be great.

The DUNN family
William Dunn (dob 1786 born Northallerton) married Elizabeth Wilkinson (dob 19 Feb 1771 Northallerton). I can only presume they must have moved to Brompton at some point.
Son William (dob 1810 Brompton) wife Margaret Robinson (dob 1821 Darlington) married Dec 1841 in Brompton, they had three children - James (dob 1843); Eliza (dob 1845) who moved to Kirkby Sigston, and Margret (dob 1852) wife Margaret died in 1857 in Brompton. William then married Mary Wilford (widow of Levi) and William died in Brompton in June 1890.
I know that William junior, who was a hand loom linen weaver, lived all his life in Water End - I believe in Hodgsons Terrace, but have no details about where William Senior lived since it was before the census started.
Can anyone help me with my search, please?

ELGIE/BRADLEY/HEPWORTH
Hi, I'm Mandy Elgie and have been researching my family tree and hope that someone may be able to help me in my research.
My father's family were from Brompton/Northallerton and am looking for any information about them.
My great great grandad was Tom Elgie (1849) who was born in the poor house Northallerton. He married Hannah Bradley (the daughter of Robert Bradley and Hannah Hepworth). Tom and Hannah lived at 49/50 Waterend Brompton in 1871/1881 with Hannah's father Robert Bradley and his son Joseph Bradley. Tom and Hannah had a son John Ernest Elgie (17/9/1881) my great grandad, he was killed in World War 1 without seeing his youngest son Walter Elgie (my grandad), so I am interested in finding any information or pictures of him and his family.
I have been on Brompton site and believe George Appleby's relation Agatha Bradley (Hoare) is my Hanna's niece (John Ernest's cousin).
Please email me on mandylg_2@msn.com

ELGIE/ BRADLEY/ ROBINSON
 | My name is Mandy Wood.
I would love to hear anything re the Elgie/Bradley/Robinson families or receive copies of photos.
My great grandmother was Jane Robinson (nee Elgie)(pictured above). She was born in Brompton in 1866. Jane married William Myers Robinson born in Romanby, Northallerton 1862 but I have not been able to find any information about him, yet anyway, although I have applied for a birth certificate.
Jane?s mother was Harriet Elgie (nee Bradley, born 1848) married to John Elgie. I have been in touch with Mandy Elgie, whose gg grandmother Hanna Bradley was the sister of Harriet! Her gg grandfather was the brother of mine!
Rosalyn Greenwood has been very helpful, we are meeting soon, so I am looking forward to that. Michael Beezer, also a relative has also been very helpful, my thanks to them both. Jane's father John Elgie, one brother and her husband all died in separate rail accidents, seems life was cheap then and safety wasn't a prime consideration as now, thank goodness.

NEESAM family
I have just visited my grandfather John Neesam who is 83. He started talking about his family tree so I've started a search!
I have found out that my great great great grandfather is Fred Neesam from Brompton Northallerton.
I've found his parents John and Jane Neesam living at 65 Main Street in Brompton and that John was a linen weaver. This led me to your website and I found that many of the Neesams are from Northallerton and worked in the Linen Factory. I am trying to find out as much as possible to give as a gift to my Grandfather.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Fred was born in 1870 and his dad John was aprox 25 at the time ofthe 1871 census.

ELGIE / DUNN / INFO WANTED ON POORHOUSE OR WORKHOUSE C1818/1820
My great great great grandmother was Cecily Elgie who was born in 1792.
She had two illegitimate children, Thomas, born 1818 and Elizabeth, born 1820 father unknown.
Then she absconded (leaving the children with ? who and where is unknown) with Abraham Dunn who she married in 1822 and had 3 children to him – all born in Brompton.
I am a descendent of Thomas.
I would like to know who brought up Thomas and Elizabeth because it wasn’t Cecily!!
Was it her parents?
Was there a poorhouse in Northallerton at the time? I know there was a workhouse in 1851 but by then the children were both adults.
Any information gratefully received - please contact Mandy Wood at mandy.wood41@ntlworld.com

My great great grandfather, George Todd, was born somewhere in Yorkshire circa 1758. George married twice. His first marriage was to Elizabeth Tyreman at Osmotherley PC, 10 May 1785.
They had seven children all baptised at Brompton (by Northallerton) PC -

Elizabeth, George's wife, was buried at Brompton PC on 9 August 1798. George's second marriage, from whom I am descended, was to the widow Ann Leng at Brompton PC on 21 August 1803.
There were four children from this marriage: John 1803,Joseph 1805, Mary 1808 and David Todd (my great grandfather) 1810. Again, they were all baptised at Brompton PC. Mary Todd (born 1808) married John Sedgewick at Brompton PC on 15.12.1827.
In 1840 they lived in America.
I would be interested in hearing from anyone descended from this line but my real interest lies in trying to find George Todd's baptism. George died at Brompton on 01.02.1842 aged 83 yrs,ll months. He was buried at Brompton.
