Message Board.
I understand that there are problems registering and using the message board.
I know it was a long and complicated procedure to do so and this is probably why it was not used very much however it has worked in the past. Today it has now been pointed out to me that it is not working at all and readers are unable to register (I also tried it and failed miserably).
For this reason, the message Board has been "re-booted".
Please email me if you have any experience of difficulties with approximate dates if known in particular whether it was before or after the recent outage. Also please feel free to make an entry on the message board and see if it works for you????
Thanks. Harry@BromptonMatters.co.uk

1 Oct 2008 Thanks to Mr Steve Metcalfe for his very interesting talk last night on "The Men behind the Names".
It was an extremely well researched and presented story of the Brompton men who gave their lives in World War 1. The event was very well attended by villagers and the presence in the Village Hall of many family relatives of the men, added to this very moving occasion.
Steve's excellent website, believed to be the first dedicated to WW1 memorials, features Brompton, Northallerton and Romanby memorials and can be seen at www.northallertonmemorials.org.uk (see our "Links for Brompton Matters" page and click on "War Memorials of Northallerton, Brompton and Romanby"

DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE AGED 14-16 WHO HAS AN INTEREST, PERHAPS THROUGH A FAMILY CONNECTION, IN WORLD WAR ONE. Read on...............
The Imperial War Museum, in association with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, is looking for 24 young people from across the UK to travel on an all expenses paid trip to France and Belgium for Remembrance Day in November 2008.

To select these Remembrance representatives, Their Past Your Future is running a competition for all young people between the ages of 14 and 16, who live in the UK. They do not have to be studying history at school. We would like to find young people who are interested in finding out more about the lasting impact of the First World War, Remembrance and Commemoration ? they may be concerned about citizenship or the environment, fascinated by art, design and photography or interested in politics or geography. The competition is open to all young people across the UK.
Have a look at the following (not a link - please copy and paste) on the Imperial War Museum's pages on TheirPastYourFuture (TPYF)

The Wilford Family was one of the 2 main Linen Manufacturers and are deeply involved in the history and heritage of Brompton. For anyone who is interested, and there are many descendents/relatives of the Wilford family in and around Brompton, both now and in the past, a direct descendent of the family has spent many years (and no doubt many Euros) researching the family history and has now produced a book.
Mary Wilford's message on the message board is repeated below with contact details for interested readers. Thanks Mary - a tremendous task finally comes to fruition. Well done.

Wilford Family History

After several years of research and contacting cousins around the world, I have finally completed a family book . ?Wilford Family History? is about the descendants of HENRY WILFORD, born estimated 1605 in Northallerton Yorkshire .UK. The book also has information on the presumed ancestors of Henry Wilford.
In addition to the dates and places of birth, marriage, and death which are usually presented in a family genealogy book, the book has about 400 scanned photos and has over 330 pages.
For any of you who are interested, please E-mail me at the address below.
