1903 Floods
 | Work must go on!
Are these your ancestors making their way through the floods at Water End?
This framed picture kindly contributed by Colin Narramore is marked Oct 9th 1903.
The footbridge, which preceded the road bridge built and paid for by Claude Wilford, can be clearly seen on the left. The ford is deep under the water to the right of the footbridge.
Interesting to see the size of the trees in 1903, can you pick out which ones they are at Water End now??

|
1933 Floods
 | This picture shows probably the Stokesley bus transitting the south side of Water End and is dated 1933 on the back.
Kindly contributed by Colin Narramore.

|
1933 Floods
 | This view of the cottages on the north side of Water End looking towards Fullicar Lane also shows the floods of 1933.
Kindly contributed by Colin Narramore

Floods in the mid 20th Century
 | The next few views are taken in the 1940's or '50s, any more information is welcome.
This shows Church View outside the area of Walker's shop, the (then) Post Office and the Crown Inn.
All the following pictures are contributed by Colin Narramore.

40's/50's??
 | Looking west over flooded roads at High Green/Church Green and Shop End in the 40's/50's.
No leaves on the trees suggest Winter? Do you know when this picture is likely to have been taken??

|
Bottom of Northallerton Road under water
 | Again in the 40's or 50's, this view of Northallerton Road under water, is that snow in the background - perhaps you can date this picture exactly for us??

School goes on despite flooding.............
 | Here the kids are shown at the school gates in Station Road, again believed to be the 40's or 50's?
Do you recognise yourself or a friend or relative?
Please let us know.
Thanks.

Kids at Water End in Mid 20th Century
 | And here are the kids again at Water End this time. Is this also the 40's and 50's?

August 2002 Floods
 | And just when you were thinking that the floods were a thing of the past, these 2 pictures kindly contributed by Harry Cooke showing the flooding in August 2002 shows us how quickly we can have our lives turned around.
This after just a couple of days of heavy rain!!

Wilford Bridge and the floods of 2002
 | The water is actually on its way down in this picture of the Fullicar Lane bridge. A ditch/channel has been constructed since then in an attempt make a shortcut before water reaches the bridge. The idea is that this should divert some of the water across the road and back into the beck without being held up at the bridge.
Although the damage from this flood was not as serious as the floods of 2000, there was still a great deal of concern, inconvenience and expense for some villagers.
