About Our School
 | SHORT HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL
The first mention of a schoolmaster in Brompton-on-Swale is found in the Parish Bundle for Easby, held in the Leeds District Archives; the year 1774. In 1838, a Chapel of Ease, later to become St. Paul's Church, was built and part of it was used as a school room. However, in 1872 a school building was built next to St. Paul's Church and its first Headmaster was George Thornton. A school house was built next to the school and the first Headmaster lived there. In 1896, a second classroom was built. Before that all of the children from five to fourteen years were taught in the same room. The "control" of the school was handed to the Local Education Authority by the Church in 1952. Piped water was provided about this period, together with improved sanitation.
From 1958 until 1960, the school provided education for children from 5 to 13 years of age. After that, the school covered for the primary years with secondary education for children of 11 years plus provided for in Richmond. Temporary classrooms built in 1966 and 1971 accommodated the village's rising child population.
The present school was built on a pleasant site in Brompton Park, and opened in June 1983. It includes three classrooms, a hall, modern dining facilities, spacious gardens and grounds. Two of the three "temporary" classrooms, which have been added to compliment the three classrooms in the main building, will very shortly be going and be replaced by two new permanent classrooms and a staff room.
THE CURRICULUM
We provide our children with a broad and balanced curriculum carefully planned to ensure progression of learning through a wide variety of experiences. They will learn the skills required to achieve educational success and through working and playing together in a caring community, develop the foundations of good citizenship.
The curriculum of our school is designed to provide a progression of learning. It recognises that when children are admitted to school they have differing needs and have had varying experiences. These experiences are built on, to develop their abilities and interests as they progress through school.

Academic Vision
We aim to instil in all of our children the belief that they can achieve academic success.
To this end we will provide them with challenging, stimulating, worthwhile and enjoyable experiences. We will give them the learning tools, which will enable them to achieve the highest standards of which they are capable, through commitment, self-discipline and hard work.
We aim to develop lively and inquiring minds in the children with confidence to question and the ability to debate rationally and not to fear making mistakes.
We will celebrate success and use positive reinforcement to assist learning.
We wish them to leave our school confident in the belief that they are competent learners who can set themselves challenging life targets and achieve them. |
