Willow Drive & Linden Road Airey Houses
 | In May 1983, some of the houses on Willow Drive and Linden Road were demolished.
The prefabricated houses known as Airey Houses were built sometime in the 1950's. The were constructed from Concrete beams reinforced with steel, and concrete plates (with pebble dash effect) hooked on the front with copper wire.
The steel inside the beams on some of the houses started to rust and make the concrete crumble. The council declared these houses unsafe and ordered for them to be demolished. |
