Brotton Cinema Up For Sale
Newspaper Clipping from the Scrapbooks of Mr Arthur Harker - Unknown Edition 21st Feb 1957
The Grand Cinema, Brotton, advertised for sale in the "Evening Gazette" last night, will be kept open by the owners, Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Shippey of Greenacres, Brotton, until it has been sold.
Today Mrs. Shippey said the cinema was being sold because of their other business commitments. Mr. and Mrs. Shippey have The Cozy Cinema, Saltburn, and recently acquired a grocery and confectionery business.
The cinema, which seats 380 people, has been in her family for about 30 years, and is the only one in the village. "I hope somebody buys it and keeps it open for the sake of the Brotton people", Mrs. Shippey said today.
The advertisement stated that the cinema would be suitable for light industry or storage.
