Week 156

RABBITS AREN'T JUST FOR EASTER...YOU CAN'T DUMP THEM WHEN YOU'RE
FED UP WITH THEM OR THEY NEED EXPENSIVE VETERINARY TREATMENT!!!

ODE TO ROGER RABBIT
A TRUE STORY

He didn't ask for silver, he didn't ask for gold
Just a loving owner, a shelter from the cold.
A loving, caring owner was not what Roger got
When he needed treatment, he was abandoned, left to rot!
But no one banked on Amber, herself a rescue pet
On spotting poor young Roger, her position it was set.
She alerted her two owners, out on their evening walk,
They gathered up poor Roger, IF ONLY HE COULD TALK!
His fur was soaked in urine, caked in muck and you know what!
Cold and wet and smelly, not a pleasant lot.
Being caring people, they harkened to his plight,
Bedraggled little Roger would have a bed tonight!
They bathed him very gently to soothe his burning skin,
Twas then they had a chance to see the state that he was in!
They dried him with a hairdryer set on 'warm and low'
Wrapped him in warm towels and found a place to go.
Two hot water bottles and a cardboard box for bed
Made Roger far more comfy, a place to rest his head.
It soon became apparent that Roger found it hard
To eat the food provided, as most he did discard.
They suspected what was wrong with him and early the next day
They took Roger to their chosen vet, without any delay.
Young Roger's teeth were overgrown, ulcers, swelling, caused him pain.
It would be quite a while before he'd eat solid food again.
This explained why Roger was nought but skin and bone,
The reason he'd been cruelly dumped and left to
die alone.
Roger needed dental work, they knew that it would cost
But Roger’s new found friends agreed that all was not yet lost!
Roger, at that point so weak, would not survive anaesthetic,
They needed to improve on his condition so pathetic.
They also needed funds to pay for this challenging new feat,
They got a jar and labelled it and set off down the street.
Friends and neighbours, strangers too! rallied to his aid,
They were really overjoyed by the money they had made.
'Veggie' baby food was bought, juice to give him strength,
To try and save Roger Rabbit, they'd go to any length.
Four days and nights they battled, feeding Roger with syringe.
He trusted them to care for him and never did he whinge.
At last he seemed to rally, they thought he'd turned the bend!
But, sadly the fifth morning Roger's life came to an end.
His system couldn't fight it, neglected for too long,
Callously rejected, Rogers fight was done.
FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH...
He knew somebody loved him for his last five days on earth!
They hope he didn't die in vain as with donated monies,
It has gone a LITTLE way to helping other bunnies.
To rehabilitate them, this callousness to STOP!!
In memory of Roger Rabbit, THE BRAVEST LITTLE LOP.
"It's only a flipping rabbit" many folk might say,
But still a LIVING CREATURE, NOT TO BE TREATED IN THAT WAY!!
Roger still had feelings, ALL LIVING CREATURES DO!
He felt pain and suffering, THE SAME AS ME AND OU!!
The truth behind this story, is plain for all to see,
It seems to be NOT ALL OF US can act RESPONSIBLY!!
SO THINK BEFORE YOU TAKE A PET, no gun's put to your head!
If you can't hack commitment, choose something else instead.
Buy yourself a cuddly toy, a doll, a teddy bear?!
DON'T take ANY ANIMAL if you're not prepared to care.
Make sure you know just what's involved, it can be quite hard work!
DON'T DO IT if your duties you are inclined to shirk.
If you CHOOSE NOT to have animals, then that, by me, is fine
But if you choose to take them on, then YOU MUST TOE THE LINE!
If you haven't that commitment, aren't prepared to pay a vet,
THEN: -

Do us all a favour and buy ... a CYBERPET!

Week 157

This years Hot X Bunny Day3 proved to be as successful as the previous ones. It was an enjoyable day and thanks to everyone involved vital funds were raised to help the ever-increasing vet bills.

Charlotte was a miss but Double-Brandy made a morning appearance but then she missed Picasso so much she went back home after lunch. The other guinea pigs and buns were just as popular and Hetty n Bodkin, the Lancashire buns, made their second appearance.

The photo competition, ran by Amanda and Neil Wilkinson, was a hit again. Amongst the many winners was Susie the hamster, who won First Prize in the Pet Section. Susie is owned by April Carney who said, "Although Susie was born without her front left hand she can still climb up my legs. She has a fascination for laces and puts them into her pouches then bites the rest off. Susie steals food from my two house rabbits and hides it behind the sofa. She is very fast but always allows me to catch her for bed."

A very popular and deserving winner of the Rescue Section was Bramble-Hill, who won the Keegan Shield, which was kindly donated by Maisie and Mike Tucker, in memory of their house rabbit Keegan. The shield is in the process of being engraved and Bramble-Hill has promised to have his photo taken with it as soon as it arrives.

Bramble-Hill was rescued by Lynne Hill. He was confined to a small part of a garden shed and never saw day-light. He was left to almost suffocate during Summer months and freeze during Winter. He rarely had fresh water as his drinking bottle resembled a nature pond and he had never tasted fresh fruit or vedg.

During his confinement, he'd become very ill and had lost his balance and could only roll around. His owners were wondering how much it would cost to get him put to sleep! He suffered fits because of the pain and it was discovered he had a tumour in his ear. This was successfully removed and he now lives as a house-rabbit. Although his head is permanently on the side, he enjoys all the things a bunny should and will do for the rest of his life.

Week 158

There's a new traffic sign that has appeared in Richmond, North Yorkshire and is awaiting entry into the latest edition of the Highway Code. Many will not know the meaning of it at the moment...So, here's a little explanation.

Picasso doesn't go out very often but on the odd journey he makes in the car, there's nothing worse than driving over those speed bumps that seem to pop up everywhere. At first, he thought it was Gwen's driving as he bounced around in his pet carrier, a rabbit could knock his teeth out, if he had any! Poor Aunty Ruby, you'd think she had springs on her bottom as she clung to the dash-board in the passenger seat! Then through the holes in his pet carrier, this clever bun began to put 2 and 2 together...each time he saw a traffic sign, that looked like a bumpy-hill to him, seconds later he would go bumpity bump!

Now as we know, Gwen pops up in the strangest of places and whilst out in the car the other day Picasso noticed Gwen's picture next to a bumpy-hill sign...Cars were stopping and turning back...but why?

Well, last week a bunny had been reported hopping around the roads of Richmond, so Gwen and a couple of BB helpers set off to rescue it. To catch it, Gwen had to lie in the road, half under a car to try and coax the bun out. Strangers to the Town didn't recognize the Bunny Boffin and just assumed it was another type of Speed-Bump.

"I'm not driving over THAT!" one visitor was heard to say!

The good news is the stray bun was caught and was taken back to BB.

The bad news is, our roads are becoming more and more uncomfortable to drive along, so beware if you see a picture of Gwen next to a speed bump sign...If your suspension is not up to scratch or you have a wobbly exhaust, then turn back! A GWEN in the road could seriously damage your car!

Week 159 and 160

Photees from Hot X Bunny Day 3

Week 161

Picasso would like to let everyone know that Gwen went into hospital on Thursday to have a knee replacement. O.K...before anyone says it...if any bodily part of Gwen needed to be replaced you would have bet it would have been her MOUTH! as she uses it so much!!

Hopefully she'll soon be back at BB hopping around the house instead of hobbling.

Now we all know that the NHS claim to be short staffed but it was abit of a surprise when Gwen was wheeled into theatre and someone said, "Hello Gwen."
Gwen recognized the face but couldn't think where she'd seen her before. The person explained that she used to be a veterinary nurse in Richmond...Just as well as Gwen is half rabbit!

She says she doesn't want knee jokes when she comes oot! (She's starting to sound like a Geordie.)

Here's hoping for a speedy recovery from all at BB and lotsa licks from the furries...they all miss you.

Week 162

We are pleased to say that Gwen is now out of hospital after her knee replacement. She will be on crutches for the next 6 weeks…No jokes please!!!

Unfortunately, the hospital she was in has had an outbreak of Rabbititis and the ward that Gwen was on has been badly affected; so much that some of the patients have turned into rabbits. A hospital spokesperson said, “Early symptoms include, twitching of the nose and requesting a litter tray instead of a bed pan.. Fortunately the outbreak is now under control, after the release of the carrier Mrs. Butler. She poses no threat to the public as she has been given a Rabbititis vaccine.”

Some of the members of staff have also been affected but have taken on the form of other animals, which is not as serious as becoming a rabbit.

We will keep you updated!

Week 163 and 164

Gwen continues to make good progress with her new knee, although getting the staples removed was more painful than the operation. She screamed 22 times!

With warmer weather upon us, Picasso would like to remind you of the dangers of flystrike, which can kill a bunny in hours.

Flystrike is when an adult fly lands on your rabbit and lays its eggs. It will certainly be heading for a soiled bottom or an open wound. The eggs hatch into maggots which feed off the rabbit by eating their way into its skin.

This condition is preventable by a product called 'Rearguard' available at most vets. It covers a rabbit from Flystrike for about 10 weeks. If you choose not to use this product, make EXTRA certain that your bunny and its surrounding areas are kept clean. Check its bottom at least twice a day, if not MORE!

Don't think it won't happen to you...IT CAN. If the maggots don't kill your bunny then the stress could.

Week 165and 166

Sadly, this week, Snowball died. She was the oldest BB rabbit at eight years old. She had been a very healthy Himalayan bun until her partner, Whiskey, died 18 months ago. She develop E-cuniculi but found love again in the paws of Drambuie a big handsome lop. She died from a heart attack in Gwen's arms...She will be a huge miss. Here she is pictured with Drambuie.

On a brighter note...Gwen and her knee continue to make good progress and the Bunny Boffin is raring to go! Although still very stiff, the wound is healing fine and she still expects to win the Richmond Knobbly Knee Contest this Summer!

Two litters of baby wild rabbits were brought in a few weeks ago. One litter was dug up by a JCB and the other by a dog. The dog killed the mother and one of the babies. The others are still fine and are being hand-reared. Hopefully, they will be released back into the wild.

Week 167and 168

The good news this week is...Gwen is driving again...Well, good news for her maybe but what about all those other motorists!

A bunny arrived last week in a very sad state. It seems that it might be another case of E-Cuniculi as the bun is continually spinning. This is a condition not always recognized by vets. Gwen and John are taking him to bed at nights and he spends his days padded out in a pet carrier to prevent him from rolling. We hope, in time, that he will recover, at least gain some balance but as proven with similar cases it is a long road to travel. He has been named Shakespeare as he is Gwen's little Mid-Summer Nights Dream!

If anyone has visited BB then perhaps you may have met Sarah, one of the BB helpers. A shy quiet girl...or so we thought ! Then we found out what her hobby was...Sword Fencing! She recently won two trophies from one of her many competitive events.

Week 169 and 170

Think before you click on your mouse for that last minute bargain holiday...Your pet may not be as lucky!

Due to the high standard of care at Bunny Burrows, boarding is very popular, therefore we are sorry to say that short-notice bookings are not always available.
Book well in advance to ensure a good holiday for everyone.

Sadly, last week Kingsmill died. A beautiful big boy, more like a dog really.

He was only about 3 years old but he had e-cuniculi. The week before he died he'd had an abscess removed from the inside of his mouth as well as two teeth. It is thought that the trauma of this resurfaced the e-cuniculi, which is always present but can often lay dormant for long periods of time.

His big friend Paris has found a new partner in Drambuie, who recently lost his friend Snowball to the same condition.

New-comers Jerry-Lee and Be-Bops have been out and about meeting some of the small children from local nurseries and also old folks homes.

As well as going out to meet folk, the buns and pigs have their own visitors. One of the callers last week was Felix.

Remember Shakespeare from last week, the bunny with e-cuniculi? He is receiving regular medication and is making good progress.

One final word...Poor Gwen has just found out that she has HAY fever (giggle giggle, lying on the floor can't stop laughing!) That's no more messing around in the barn for her on a warm Summer afternoon!!!

Week 171

Only one week to go until our first Summer event!

SUMMER SUNDAY will be a day packed with interesting craft stalls, the opportunity to meet some of the BB furries and find out what the Rescue is all about. As well as indulging yourself with strawberries and cream and other delights.

It is BB's first Summer Event, having had great success with Easter and Christmas events. We hope to see lots of support at RICHMOND MARKET HALL, NORTH YORKSHIRE on SUNDAY JULY 25TH between 10.00am and 4.00pm.

Shakespeare, who we mentioned last week, is steadily improving. He was strong enough to have his 'boy-bits' removed. Apparently, he had adopted Gwen as his mate and sprayed her every time he heard her voice! Mmm Mmm!

Finally, Gwen would like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who sent her get-well wishes and gifts, after her recent knee replacement. They have been greatly appreciated and have contributed to her recovery, knowing so many folk support her in what has become her life

Week 172 and 173

The Summer Sunday event was a great success...Thanks once again to the BB Helpers, Stall Holders and the generosity of the public.

Shakespeare continues to make good progess and has moved from his 'padded pet corner' to a proper indoor house. He has been spending his days in one of the runs in the garden during the day.

Another sad case arrived about the same time as Shakespeare called Buddy. He was a house rabbit and has such a beautiful nature. Unfortunately, he had an eye problem during his time with his former owners but they failed to follow up his treatment. This resulted in the poor bunny nearly losing his sight. An abscess developed which covered his eye ball. Thanks to the skill of Aunty francis's husband, Uncle Nigel, who removed the lens and the infection and then replaced the lens, Buddy may now have partial sight in that eye.

Bunny Burrows are holding another Fund-Raising event in NORTHALLERTON on SATURDAY AUGUST 14th...MORE DETAILS NEXT WEEK.

Before we go...Please remember to do extra checks on your buns bums for flies and eggs. Protect them with a product called 'Rear Guard' available from vets or at least use Bob Martin Fly Repellant from petshops.

Week 174 175 and 176

It has been extremely hectic at BB, also at the Foster-Homes...so, apologies for the delay.

The successful Summer Sunday event was followed a week later by another big day in Northallerton. This venue had been handed over to BB by a local charity, they had booked the event but could not fulfil the occasion. Thank you for thinking of Bunny Burrows.

One little wild baby rabbit about six weeks old named Grainger, after the vets he was taken to, has made his first public appearance at the market hall in Richmond on Gwen's Sunday stall. He has become too tame to be released back into the wild.

It's not only children that the furries bring smiles to...just take a look at these photees of some of the residents of a local old folks' home...It brings tears to your eyes.

Before we go...Double-Brandy has been put on a diet and up to date she has lost a whopping ONE KILO! Although from this photee poor Picasso reckons she still has along way to go!

Week 177

It's not only Double-Brandy who is on a diet at BB. Two supporters of the charity are also trying to shed a few pounds. Maysie Tucker, mum of Hetty and Bodkin, who regularly appear in Richmond Market Hall for our special events and Joanna Deeley from The Bunny Company are doing a sponsored slim, with all proceeds going to the rescue. If anyone would like to sponsor either of them, please contact Gwen on 01748 824788.

Remember when Gwen was in hospital for her knee replacement and all the ward was infected with rabbititis? Well, in Gwen's case it has sadly returned!

Week 178 and 179

For all of you who receive a copy of BB's News Letter...It should be dropping through your letter box soon.

Shakespeare and his tiny friend, Grainger, are continuing to get along well together during their time in the garden. As Shakespeare loses his balance from time to time they are not together during the night incase he falls on Grainger. It is hoped that Shakespeare will eventually become stable, once this happens it would be wonderful if the two buns could snuggle up together.

Week 180 and 181

Good news this week...Shakespeare and little Grainger are now permanently together and absolutely adore each other.

For awhile now Gwen has been in desperate need of some new drawers! This week she eventually bought some and they came in a selection of bright colours. When we tell you that she decided on the see-through ones you will be pleased to know that they are for storage! It appears that her dining table has disappeared under a mountain of paper work which will now be filed into its new home.

It has emerged that BB has its own weather forecaster. One of the furry residents, named Wild Thing, has a little wooden box inside his indoor house called a 'hop n hide.' Gwen has noticed if he has hopped onto the top of the box it is going to be a nice day but if he is hiding under the box, it will almost certainly rain!

Week 182and 183

Another busy week at the Burrows…Many phone calls from folk wanting their furries to be rehomed.

When you realise how many animals are unwanted it makes it even harder to understand when one who has been well cared for and from a loving home dies.

Bomber and Ginger, two of BB’s Permanent piggy residents sadly died last week. Bomber lived with Princess, a cute longhaired girl pig and Ginger shared with Rob-Roy. They both died unexpectedly, without any obvious health problems. We are pleased to say that Princess has found a new roommate called Truffly and Rob-Roy's new friend came from ‘Up North’ and has been named And

A gorgeous boy bunny arrived at BB a few weeks ago and was very quickly names Sinatra because of his big blue eyes. Sadly he has a badly deformed front paw. So deformed that he walks on the equivalent of our knee on that particular side. He is too young to undergo an operation that may help him and prevent further complications. But, as soon as he is able, Aunty Frances or Uncle Nigel will be doing all they can to minimise his disabilities. We will keep you updated.

Don’t forget to put extra bedding in for those furries who live outside…It’s getting colder. Also, extra cover to protect them from the wind and rain

Week 184 and 185

It appears that things are back to normal, now that Gwen and Aunty Ruby are back from holiday. The running of BB was left to John (Gwen's husband) and of course Double-Brandy and Picasso tried to convince John that during the day, Gwen and Aunty Ruby allowed all of the bunnies and pigs to have a free run of the house!!! Of course John wasn't having any of it...Well it was worth a try anyway!

Some of you may remember Pepsi. She came to Bunny Burrows and it was discovered that she'd broken one of her back legs. Sadly, after trying to save it, the leg eventually had to be amputated. She adjusted well to having three legs but unfortunately two weeks ago she broke one of her front legs. She now has a fixator fitted to try to heal the break. Everyone is hoping it will be successful as the outlook would be very poor if she lost this leg as well.

We will keep you updated.

Week 186 and 187

As we mentioned last time, Pepsi has broken one of her front legs. What makes this even more serious is she's already lost one of her back legs. Here is the brave girl with the fixator that will hopefully mend her leg.

Week 188 and 189

Bunny Burrows received a special gift this week...A new set of hutches to fit into the bottom building in the garden. This was made possible by KANGA.

Kanga is a bunny whose owner often sends cheques to BB. We have tried matching the name on the cheque with our mailing lists but to no avail. If Kanga's owner reads Charlotte's Diary can we take this opportunity to THANK-YOU for your kind support. The set of hutches have been named as KANGA'S KABINS. Gwen would love to hear from you but also understands if you wish to remain anonymous.

Another THANK-YOU to Riverbank Veterinary Clinic and Hospital on the Isle of Wight, who kindly donate the proceeds from their regular quiz nights

Week 190

Christmas Cracker Day is almost upon us again, this will be our third year of this event. So, if you're looking for a few hours out on Sunday November 28th then pop along to Richmond Market Hall in the centre of Richmond in North Yorkshire. You never know, you may even pick up some unusual Christmas pressies. As well as a variety of craft stalls, there will be some 'Furries' to stroke and of course some refreshments. Do try and call in between 10am and 4pm and help us raise much needed funds for Bunny Burrows.

Some news on Pepsi and sadly at the moment it is not too good. The leg that she broke has fixed well but unfortunately an infection has dveloped in the bone. Everyone is very anxious about her, especially Toy-Boy who is missing her terribly.

Week 191

Thanks to all involved for yet another successful Christmas Cracker Day3. It's not just about raising money for the furries, although this is extremely important but it's so nice to meet up again with folk and have a chat.

Pepsi is home and is back with her Toy-Boy. Gwen went to pick her up on Monday, she still has an infection in the bone but there's nothing like your own bed especially when her bunny boy was waiting for her.

Poor Cherry is not so good, she needed a tummy tuck. Not for vanity but for medical reasons. The rolls of skin on her tummy were causing her skin to be infected as she couldn't clean under them. She isn't over weight, this is just a problem some bunnies develop. She has also developed a urine infection, possibly connected to her original infection. Hopefully with her medication she will feel alot more comfortable very soon.

Week 192 and 193

Why is life full of 'alls' or 'nothings'? Just last week we were celebrating the much needed funds raised on Christmas Cracker Day3 and meeting up with old friends. This week is so different...Poor Pepsi lost her continuous fight for survival. After arriving at Bunny Burrows with the most awful flystrike she broke one of her back legs. The leg was fitted with a fixator but the bone developed an infection and her leg had to be amputated. She adapted well to three legs but sadly worse was to come. Whilst playing in the garden she broke a front leg, no one knows how. The same procedure was followed with a fixator and a similar infection developed. This time there was no way that she could cope with only two legs. There were no other options. So sad for a bun that fought all the way and went through so much.

More sad news...Princess Pig died this week, she was eight years old! What an age for a guinea pig but still hard to accept losing her. Recently, she'd had a lump removed from behind her eye and appeared to be making a good recovery. Sadly Gwen found her dead in her indoor house on Friday. She was well named as she'd had a right royal life style in her many years at Bunny Burrows

Let's hope we have some brighter news next week.

Week 194

Recently one of BB's residents was discovered to have a very rare condition called Ehlers-Danlos.

Here is the recent news paper article from the Northern Echo with the full story.

Animal refuge staff believe they have found the region’s unluckiest rabbit.

Last Christmas, Double Brandy was left on the doorstep of a veterinary practice in a box.

But far from being starved and in need of a good feed, she weighed a massive 6.3 kg and had to go on a diet.

Now staff at Bunny Burrows, in Richmond, North Yorkshire, have found out the New Zealand red-cross has a rare disease called Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.

The condition means the rabbit’s skin is very fragile and wounds can take a long time to heal. Sanctuary manager Gwen Butler said, “She has been very unlucky. When she first arrived, I thought she just hated being touched but now I realise being handled must have been painful for her, although she is still a happy bunny and it probably bothers me more than it bothers her.”

Week 195

As it's Christmas we have a few photees to show you that might bring a smile to everyone's face.

Week 196

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

This year Picasso thought it would be nice if we could share photees of our furries on Charlotte's Diary.

If you would like to, please e-mail them to KAZ, her address is furryhollow@yahoo.co.uk

To start off, here's a real handsome bun called Benjamin. He's a Continental Giant and weighs almost 16 pounds! He belongs to John and Marcia Talbot on the Isle of Wight. I rather think that John and Marcia belong to him!

A while ago a special bun arrived at BB, she's been called Yana Tatyana. She was found wandering around the streets of Harrogate and was taken to Harcourt-Browns (Aunty Francis to those that know her). Her head was badly tilted and she spun constantly. Although her head is still tilted, Gwen has got her 'spinning' under control after Aunty Francis asked if BB would take Yana in their care.

Week 197 and 198

Picasso's request for Furry Photos has already proved popular; although Double-Brandy has warned him he's not to pin any of the girl bunnies up in their indoor house!

This is Fudge and Joey they live with the McVeigh family in Billingham. Fudge is a black netherland dwarf and she lives happily with Joey a white dwarf lop. Both bunnies came from Bunny Burrows.

Next here is Basil and Rosemary they will be three years old on Valentine's Day. In this photo taken by their owner, Susan Haggas from Harrogate, they are only six months old.

When it comes to illness or injury our pets put us to shame. Just look at Poor Terry-Tea-Spoon's wound after having a huge abscess removed. Gwen has been filling the wound with Manuka honey to flush out any remaining puss. The hole was so big it was taking over 1ml of honey to fill it.

Two big thank-you's this week...

First, to Kanga for his recent generous donation that has enabled the rescue to buy these brilliant new indoor hutches. They have been named 'Kanga's Kabins' Up-market rabbit accommodation don't you think?

... and second a huge thanks to Maysie Tucker from Lancashire and Joanna Deeley from The Bunny Company for their sponsored weight loss. Joanna lost 19lbs and Maysie lost 14lbs. Between them they raised over £500 for Bunny Burrows.

Week 199

Sad news this week, Sam, one of Gwen and John’s dogs died. He had recently developed heart problems, which was common to his breed and was put on medication. On Sunday he had to be rushed to the emergency vets. Whilst waiting for the vet Sam sadly stopped breathing.

He was six years old when he arrived at BB and spent three happy years surrounded by small furries and Jade, Gwen and John’s other dog. He always managed to find a ‘knee’ to sit on whenever anyone called at Bunny Burrows and always received hundreds of kisses!

Week 200 and 201

Thank you again for sending in your photees. If anyone else would to share a picture of their furries with us would you please email them to Kaz. furryhollow@yahoo.co.uk

This week we have Dollar who came from Bunny Burrows and now lives with Marcus and Johnathan Dewhurst in Gateshead. He has the run of the house and garden and is constantly being forgiven for chewing through the 'phone wire and stripping wallpaper!

Mr. H and Mrs. Cinnamon live with Roz Lamb from Durham. If you receive a copy of our newsletter, 'Burrowings' you will recognize them from the 'Bundland Echo' articles.

Week 202

It's Newsletter time again and those of you who receive a copy should check your mail box next week. Those who don't get a copy and would like one, please send four first class stamps to:

Bunny Burrows
68 Whitefields Drive
Richmond
North Yorkshire
DL10 7DL

and we will send you copies for 2005.

Thanks again for the photees, Picasso is really enjoying looking through them; he's calling them his 'fan club!'

He's enjoying them even more this week after having the remainder of his bottom left teeth removed. They had been causing him such awful problems but he is back home ... bless him.

He's had so much to deal with recently but just takes it in his stride ...but that's what furries do, don't they? They put us to shame when it comes to coping!

Brenda Anderson from Salford has sent us these gorgeous photees of her furries.

Week 203

What dreadful weather we're having but I'm sure everyone's making a great effort, ensuring the furries don't go cold and hungry. Folk are digging their cars out from the snow to buy fresh veg and warm bedding. Picasso said he was going to help John shovel the snow away but unfortunately he could only find three of his wellies! Any excuse Picasso.

Look who else we found skiving...Big Bunny herself!

Week 204

Bunny Burrows is full of success stories and happy endings, so why is it that the sad times always stand out and tear us apart? It seems like ten happy occasions are needed to get us through one sad one.

Sadly, this morning, March 4th, Yana went to Bunny Heaven. She came to BB after wandering the streets of Harrogate. She was in such a state, spinning continously. However, with love, care and medication Gwen and John nursed her and she improved beyond belief. The spinning stopped and she seemed as though she had turned a corner. A few weeks ago she had a relapse and never recovered. Gwen did everything she could, drawing on her vast experience of bunnies but it was those evening cuddles on Gwen’s knee that Yana enjoyed the most.

Picasso heard Gwen, broken-hearted, on the phone to a friend breaking the sad news and as ever, wondering if she could have done things differently and doubting herself. Now we all know Picasso can only talk through Charlotte’s Diary, so this is what he said…

“I for one, would not be here if I hadn’t been rescued by Gwen and if all the furries rescued by her over the years got together, they’d fill all the fields around Richmond. Without Gwen we wouldn’t have had a second chance.”

There was another sad loss this week, little Hetty. She lived with her bunny boy Bodkin. If you receive a copy of our newsletter you will remember Hetty from the regular Hetty n Bodkin articles and their visits to the Market Hall in Richmond on BB Craft Days. Hetty was rescued by Gwen and adopted by Mike and Maysie Tucker from Lancashire, where she spent two very happy years.

Week 205

A very busy week is ahead of us as we prepare for Hot X Bunny Day4. As usual it takes place in Richmond Market Hall, in the centre of Richmond in North Yorkshire. Visit our Home Page for more details, hope to see you all on the day!

Tuesday, March 15th is a very special day so pop back then and find out why.

A Special Day Today ... March 15th

This Morning ... LIVE March 16th

Week 206 and 207

Another successful Hot X Bunny Day4. Friends old and new from near and far joined us for a giant fund-raising day.

Brave volunteers Adrian and Richard bared their chests and promptly had them de-fuzzed by Sarah Morrice from Beauty Oasis in Darlington.

The Bunny Burrow's Photo Show proved to be extremely popular. Among the prizes were pens, photo albums and a digital camera. Shown here are two of the four boards of entries.

Of course Gwen and John were STILL CELEBRATING their Silver wedding anniversary and were given this beautiful cake from John and Marcia Talbot from the Isle of Wight.

Remember last week Gwen was on THIS MORNING with her big bunny called Phoenix...Well she has already found a bunny friend. Drambuie, who sadly lost his friend, Paris, has fallen for the big girl. Paris was a gorgeous gentle giant as you can see from her photo. She amazed many folk by her size.

Thank you this week to Betty Unwin from Northallerton who sent us this beautiful photo of her bunny Sinartra.

Finally...Some news from the ANIMAL ROAD SHOW on ITV Television.

ANIMAL ROADSHOW ITV

Problems with the parakeet?
Rabbit running you ragged?
Or maybe your spaniel saved your life?

Badly-behaved bulldogs, mixed-up moggies, hopeless hamsters, mangy mutts in need of a grooming makeover - help is at hand! ITV’s Animal Roadshow is coming to town featuring every kind of animal imaginable, from the domestic to the wild, the most talented to the weirdest and the oldest to the worst behaved.

In a different location each week during April Animal Roadshow invites the public to bring along their four legged (and two-legged and six-legged) friends and to talk to its team of regular animal experts which include behaviourists, a vet, animal psychics and a celebrity groomer. All Dr Dolittles in different shapes and sizes.

They might have a specific problem they want help with, an animal talent they desperately want the nation to see, or a heroic or funny story to tell. Each week there will also be a guest expert – e.g. an animal healer who claims to communicate directly with her patients via her healing hands, or a star animal trainer who can help mould your pet for the movies.

Talented animals will be put through their paces for Pet Idol or the doggy Assault Course, while Star line-ups will invite viewers to guess which pet belongs to which celebrity owner. Animal Brats will have their behavioural problems challenged and hopefully cured, mangy mutts will be offered a makeover to satisfy the most fashion conscious of owners, and psychic pets will have their powers put to the test.

Where the pets can’t come to the roadshow the roadshow will go to the pet, to cover topical issues and feature animals that cannot be brought to the venue. These reports might cover poisonous pets, quarantine issues, chipping, animals in movies, working animals, destructive or dangerous animals and reconstructions of stirring tales of animal heroism. We will also follow up animals with behavioural problems as their owners put into practice the experts’ advice.

Whatever the story of amazing pets or animals in need of professional help, Animal Roadshow wants to hear about it now. The roadshow will be visiting Wythenshaw Park in Manchester at the start of April. We’ll be open to the public on Saturday 2nd and Sun 3rd April so please bring your pet and come along. Thursday 31st March and Friday 1st April are days for invited guests to come in advance and see our experts – so if you want to make an appointment then get in touch and tell us your animal story.

Call 0208 846 2072 or email animalroadshow@liontv.co.uk and we’ll get straight back to you.
