Sister Columba's Class c 1939

photo and info - Mike Moore
A neighbour (Sheila Barker formerly Bessemer Street) of my mother ( Lilian Gill as was ) sent me details of your Website and I was wondering if the attached photo was of any interest to you.
Mother reckons it was taken 1937/38 but my own suspicion is that it was a bit later as she was born in 1932 and the kids look definitely older than 5!
One thing we are agreed on though is that it was probably taken on the same day as the photo of Sister Columba with the 6 boys. She has given me a list with the line-up on the photo is as follows: -

Top Row:standing: T Burns, Unknown, Kath Meskell, Helen Foley, Veronica Phillipson,Noreen Shea, Margaret Livingstone, Bridie Mannix, Jimmy Hetherington, Kenny Davis, Bill Terry, Peter Lanny, John Grogan, Pat Cochrane

Middle Row: Emma Kell, Audrey Moonie, Kath Curry, M Brannigan, Margaret Fennon, Lilian Gill, Audrey Watson

Front Row: Bernard Mullen, Joan Twohig, M Kirkbright, K Briggs? K.McElvaney, Noreen Moore....and Jim Fox peeping between two girls shading his eyes from the sun.

Just a note St. Mary's, Sister Columba's 1939 class, the little girl front row, second from right hand end is Kathleen McElvaney (who was born in 1932). Your site is getting lots of visits by my friends and they all say how much they love it. However, only a few have put their name it the guest book. I wonder why people are so shy? You are doing a great job. Good luck. Eugene

Christmas Nativity Play 1946

Bridie informs me that this play was definitely performed in 1946 on the stage of the Lyric Cinema - just before Sister Columba left for Japan.

The highlight of this particular photograph which I recall quite well - is of John Murphy (middle row) falling into the pool of water before the photo was taken and after some delay, reappearing in another new outfit - and another gleaming white shirt - ready for his photograph. He must tell me what really happened.
I thank Tony Martin, standing next but one to me, for sending this via email. Now this really does illustrate all what is best on the internet - a chance for many to freely enjoy a precious moment from the past once again.
