Pochin Road Infant School was opened in 1906 to cater for the increasing numbers of Grangetown's population. It became the main feeder school for Grangetown Board School.

As promised:- first of some pics of Grangetown/Grangetown families. My dad was Les Sivills who was born in Victoria Road and his sister was Gladys. Both are on this picture taken around 1911 marked with 'x''s .
Best Regards Graham (Sivills)

Superb picture of a group from 1911 - very clear and presented well - makes me want to know more - Who were the staff in those far off days? Was your father the owner of the sweet shop in Whitworth Road? More Grangetown grandparents are on this picture - You out there !

The girl on the right of the photograph of Pochin Road Infants School is, my cousin Jean Brackpool (not Blackpool as stated). Jean emigrated to Australia with the rest of the Brackpool family in April 1966. The family were,
Thomas Cecil James Brackpool (Cecil), Betty Brackpool (nee Ayton), and children, June, Jean, Colin, Donald, Malcolm, Anne and Jacqueline.
All now live around the Brisbane area of Australia except Jean, who lives at Cairns.
The family lived in a prefab in Lee Road in the 1950's and then moved to Fabian Road until they emigrated. My Aunt (Betty) died in Brisbane in 1975.

Regards, George Ayton

Apples ! 1949

Apples ! 1949 - courtesy of Terry Reeve

Probably 1949 when I was in 'top infants'. Boxes of apples were delivered to the school from Canada or perhaps New Zealand.

Some of us were chosen to give out the apples and everyone was told to hold them up to the camera.

Probably 1948/9. Here I am (2nd left) in the reading corner with some of my Middle Infant classmates: Alan Hopwood (4th left) and Gillian Dennis (2nd right), who later went on to play trumpet in a female band.
