Fr Kelleher Curate 1940-42
photo from Sheila Barker
All of the people I have talked to, regard Fr Kelleher as one of the most dynamic priests in St Mary's Parish. He started the YCW and enjoyed an immense popularity during his short stay.
After he was recalled to Ireland, it is believed he died quite young. |

Fr Francis Daly Parish Priest 1973-1988
On Monday, 17 February 2003 Father Francis Daly died peacefully at Nazareth House, Middlesbrough. He was 71 years of age.
Frank originated from Ferbane, Co Offaly, and studied for the priesthood at St Patrick's College, Thurles. He was ordained on 10 June 1956 and began his ministry as a curate at St Aelred's, York, where he remained until 1959 when he became curate at St Francis', Middlesbrough. In 1973 he was appointed parish priest of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, Grangetown where he served the people for 15 years before retiring to Nazareth House in 1988.
Frank, well known for his quick wit and humour, was popular and enjoyable company when he was in good health. His interest in the horses was well known, together with his love for a good game of cards. Frank had a great reputation as a very sympathetic confessor, a gift much appreciated by the many who went to him. Throughout his priestly ministry his great love of the Mass was visible by the reverence with which he always celebrated it, together with his love of the Rosary. Parishioners always recall his great memory of names and addresses, especially those of people whose marriages he had officiated at.
We extend our deepest sympathy to Frank's family and all his friends. A special thanks to the Sisters of Nazareth House and all who looked after him so well.
Father Frank's body was received into St Francis of Assisi, Middlesbrough, on Monday, 24 February, at 6.45 pm, followed by Vigil Mass at 7 pm. Requiem Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, 25 February, at 11.30 am, and his mortal remains were taken to Ireland for reception into the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Ferbane, Co Offaly, on Thursday, 27 February. Requiem Mass was celebrated the following morning followed by burial in the local cemetery at Ferbane. Canon Eddie Gubbins and Father Dan O'Neill represented the diocese at the Requiem in Ireland.
